My GN doesn't have a power seat, but does it have the wiring under it for the power seat?

I'm installing a power trunk release. Looking for power.

On my other GM cars, there's a hot plug under there.

Thanks.

pretty sure there's not one there. When I installed my seat heaters I ran to the fuse box. If I know me half as well as I think I do (and I think I do :) ) I would have tapped that harness instead of going to the fuse box.

On my car I just ran a wire to the fuse box for the trunk release and tapped an open port with a 1/4" spade connecter.

Just looking to power-up a release button. It looks like I'll have to run a wire (fused) to the button under the seat for the trunk.

Here's one I did in my winter car... I use this a lot! No fumbling for keys.

If I rarely have something of value in the trunk,I tuck the switch behind the leg. But that's rare. Gotta have my power trunk releases.

Thanks,Earl. That probably what I'll have to do,then.

Hey... Look.. I just made another one. Instead of a plate,I cut a hole in the ashtray and recessed the breaker. Now I can close the lid!

And you have a place to rest a cigarette!!!

If it matters, the release solenoid doesn't pull enough current to require one of those flaky POS relays :D

The junkyards are full of factory release buttons in the glovebox. Simple one screw removal.

I left the cig holder as a decoy. It's really tough to tell the breaker (which is used as a switch) is in there.

We don't have many junkyards up here in the NE where I am,unfortunately. So,I just went for a universal horn button from Advance as a switch.

I really don't want it in the stock location being its hot all the time. I just can't stand having to go for a trunk key each time I want to get in there.

You can wire it switched if you wanted to,but that would negate the need for an extra line on the checklist :P

I made mine hot so I don't have to go back in the house for keys to pop the trunk. I use my alarm remote to pop it anyway (its wired up hot all the time too LOL )

Here's a different take on the trunk popper switch that I used on one of my other cars..

I used a "momentary on" micro-switch from Radio Shack, drilling a small hole in the drivers-side inside leg cover.

Might go this route instead of the horn switch like I did in my winter car.

How about a DPDT knife switch mounted on the dash... you could power it with the parking lights, then actuate the switch and while holding in the cigarette lighter, hit the horn button to pop the trunk...

Then un-actuate the knife switch to return the horn back to it's normal blowey self :D

Man, I love knife switches. I wish I could think of more ways to use them. (this coming from a guy with a 4ft Jacobs Ladder in his living room :D )

They sure are.
I usually rip into that cardboard flesh surrounding them like a wild badger. :D
I kinda feel bad and like a hack, until I remind myself that every 60 days, they squish the stuff with no regard.

I'm going to post you up a pic of a cool switch I ripped out from a late 80's early 90's LeSabre or something of that ilk.
It is labeled "TRUNK', same size as our headlight switches etc
And can be mounted under or in the dash or where ever
Uses the little snap in tabs ears after you cut a perfect rectangular hole..
I thought it looked cool for my non-trunk release cars.

I hate reaching waay over, unless there is a Hooter's girl sitting in the passenger seat, and I inadvertently lick her kneecap on my way to the trunk release.

.

LOL - dood, that's a 10kA 30 amp AC breaker.
The car will burn down before that breaker trips.
That trunk release solenoid probably draws milliamps - for a second.
Any ole tap on the junction block up under rat's nest central would be fine
Do I need to send you a new ashtray..?
I even sandblast mine and paint them black inside. ;)

And remind me to please have a look at your Journeyman's card next time as well. :D

How does he get AC current to that car? Must be set up like a trolley or old style bumper car.

The knife switch is a great idea. I can cut a sammich with it when I'm on my lunch break.

Checklists....checklists...

I LOVE sammiches!!!!

Heisen..Heisender... Can't say your name..

That breaker just acts as a switch. I still have the Hotwire fuse on the back of the alt.
I don't smoke,so no need for the ashtray.

Hopefully that dash bezel cooperates tomorrow.

Earl.. My checklist is getting longer. Might get a alky pump heating blanket. That's in another thread.
Maybe I can use it as a sammich heater in the summer. Hot pastrami cut with a knife switch. I'm onto something!

LOL - remind me not to send you to the grocery store for a loaf of bread and you bring me back an entire rack of hot dog buns. :D
I almost think one of us is going to have to send you one of our stash of trunk release buttons.
I'm waiting on Earl to dig into his bag first! :D
I'm down to my last 23 units. ;)
