im starting to think that the ring and pinion may have been changed on my car because of the incorrect speedo reading even though the gov and driven gears are correct. so i was wondering if there is any way to check if the gears are not stock without having to pull the cover off?? and is there anyway that this coudl cause my trans to not shift unless i get off the throttle?? thanks

May still have an id tag on the inspection cover bolts or just spin the tires and see how may revolutions it takes to spin the drive shaft one full revolution and you have it also. As far as not shifting until you get off the gas, you may need to pull the pan and check to see if you have a small spring from the governor lying in the pan.

the gov spring is still there, so i really dont know hwat to do about the no shifting, and its kinda pissign me off haha.

Here's how to get really close.

Make mating chalk marks on the wheel and brake drum on both tires, and again on the axle housing and the pinion dust flange. Then, as 2quiktocare said, spin the tires for one whole revolution, till your mating marks on the wheels and drums line up again, counting the revolutions of the pinion while doing so. You can get it down to .20 ~ .25 of the ratio.
