lol... here is a dumb question... is a TA 62 turbo the same as an 87 turbo just bigger guts?

"TA" designates stock 87 housings. They are machined for the 62 wheels but would pass for a stock 87 turbo from the outside.
Is there any aftermarket turbo that will bolt to an 85 GN throttlebody?

If you dont mind a little bit of work, the most cost effective upgrade would be buying a used TA49 or other TA series turbo for around 400$ or so. I welded the stock intake to turbo adapter to the TA49 and bought the throttlebody to turbo adapter from turbo6x2. It has worked great and flows a ton more air than a stock turbo. If all you wanted was a slight upgrade for cheap you could do the same thing to a stock 86-87 turbo that you can find for less than 150 bucks. I don't have any track times but I hopefully will soon. My dads 85 had been neglected for a couple years and we finally got it running again this last weekend. I'll update with some track times hopefully.
