I was thumbing through my Summit book looking at coolers for engine oil and noticed that only one from Perma-Cool (PRM-3318) mentions that oil is one of the fluids it can cool. I'm in the process of installing an aluminum radiator from an F body which doesn't have provisions for engine oil like the OE unit does. I already have an external tranny cooler and have another extra older tranny cooler (B&M stacked plate design BMM-71274) that I could use for the engine oil if it will work. My question is in the title above, is there really a difference between the two? Can I use a "tranny" cooler for engine oil?? TIA

I've heard (though not checked) that the tranny cooler has less flow capability than the oil cooler. It seems like the lines are smaller. That's enough to prevent me from trying it without verifying flow and such. HTH james

I've noticed that the oil coolers are tube design rather then the stacked plate, this probably to minimize flow restriction back to the motor. Any other ideas out there???
