Hey everyone my names Nick and i need a little help. I have been looking for a Grand National in good condition to buy in my area. Not many are for sale in my area but i found one on craigslist the other night. Its seems like a good price. I was just going to ask everyone if they think this is a good buy or not? What should i be aware of or look out for? Any info will help.

Thanks, Nick

If it is as good as he says, then that is a good deal. Check it out for rust. Better look asap because you just let every one know about it.

Gn

I understand you want a GN and you could be in a rush but I would keep looking. This seems to be a down market and I am sure you will find a much better deal. $8500 for a car that needs paint and has several needs just does not sound very good. Just my thoughts and hope you find the right GN. I do not know your budget or how fast a GN you want but lots of good deals can be had. Do not let distance be your guide. It is not hard to hop a plane and dirve your new GN home. Hope this helped. HiTech6

When I bought my GN, it was all stock with 83,000 miles on it & paid around 6,000 for it...of course, this was back in 1998 when they were selling cheaper than they are now...
I believe it really helped me as a first time owner in the Turbo Buick world to buy a GN that was all stock & not modified in any way because when you have a modded Turbo Buick, tuning becomes more involved...& if it wasn't for this great Tubo Buick Board & it's members, I would have probably given up & sold the car a long time ago....lol.
If I were you, I'd try to find a 1986 or 87 GN or T-tType that was as close to stock as possible....You can do the small mods & learn to tune as you go........(chip, air filter, fuel pump, etc..)

Just my opinion...

NEVER, NEVER post a link to a car that you think is a good buy. I'll bet someone is already there looking at it to snatch it out from under you.

I agree!

It sounds like a good deal. I paid 6200 for my 87 t and it was bone stock ,needed paint with 89000 miles.

Looks like a pretty good deal with the price vs mods. Check it over real well and if happy with what you find, go for it!

Looks kind of beat up for having only 42k miles. I would do a Carfax and make sure the miles are genuine. If the miles are real, it's an awesome deal for only $6500.

double edged sword

I would rather buy a car with at the very least a scanmaster on the dash....that right there would tell me, the owner knew what he was doing and kept a keen eye out for knock, istead of stock chip in car with too much timing for todays gas and teenage sons living at home who had borrowed the car often.

its always going to be a toss up, you just have to trust your inner voice and not the salesmans

From the description of the GO FAST stuff on it, every mile on its probably
been 1/4 mile at a time.
Someone mentioned more of a stock car, and thats probably not a bad idea.
Trying to trouble shoot cars can be hard enough at times, but even more difficult when they have been customized and modified.
For what its worth
Steve

That looks like a good deal but as already mentioned,do a carfax and verify the mileage.

My guess would be that it has spent a lot of time on the drag strip with having only 42,000 miles and he had the transmission rebuilt.

For the price though if it's in the condition that the pictures show and with the mods it would be a very good deal.

PS That car was also listed on this board Aug 17 for the same price

$8500 for a car that needs a minimum $5k paint job makes that car worth about $4-5k.

Keep looken. There are better deals out there. You do NOT want to a car that needs paint. There are plenty of cars out there that simply don't.

I know pics can hide a lot of things but the paint doesn't look bad. Personally I'd go look at the car in person, and bring a few friends along that know what they're looking for.

True true.... but i do have some connections on a paint job. My buddys mom owns a body shop. So it wouldnt be that bad. Stock would prob be better but i was going to do most of these mods down the road anyways. Ill prob go take a look at it next week. Ill be calling the guy tomo.

Thanks again everyone!

I just want to know ware you guys are seeing these 6k deals I cant seam to find any thing drivable and with out rust for much less then 10k. If I could have found a car for 6k I would have got one a lot sooner.
