For a while now my car has slipped between 1st and 2nd gear and I finally broke down and took it to a transmission guy here who is pretty well respected in the drag racing world. Anyway, he drove my car and said the problem is the 2-4 band and that it needs to be replaced. He told me he could go ahead and do a complete rebuild on it and put all the good performance parts in it which would make a very good strip and an ultra reliable street tranny for around a $1,000. Does this sound about right? I have known this guy for a while and feel like he wouldn't try and rip me off.

Hmmmm, someone was running an impact while we were talking so I may have misunderstood him. Any questions I could ask him that are exclusive to the 2004r?

It has a 2nd gear band. Maybe that's what he meant. A grand for a rebuild with good parts is a good deal IF he gives a warranty. I have been asking around this past week about a rebuild and I've found prices from $500 to $1,300. All shops only warranty a stock rebuild. They would build it with the good parts but not give a warranty. I will most likely go to AAMCO only because they give a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Everyone else only gives 6 months/6,000 miles. They said they would keep the shift kit in and add the better servo and still give the warranty. If it had not been for the warranty I would have ordered the rebuild kit with the good parts and had someone do it for around $500.
