Anyone here ever hear of something that can be installed on the engine that tells you how fast the car was going on a given trip, the rpms, how fast you went from 0-60 etc? Because my friend claims that his dad told him he put that on his car to find out if he was speeding around when he took the car out...is this for real? or just a trick his dads playing on him to get him to drive more responsibly?

Yes, a data logger would do just that. It gathers real time information and stores it. It can be set to start recording given certain parameters, for example: The throttle position sensor(TPS) tells how far the gas pedal has been mashed, vehicle speed sensor when it hits a certain MPH, when the engine hits a certain RPM, the engine load, the MAF hits a certain gr/sec setting. Very easy to set up. Full throttle speed sells a very popular one for our cars called the Powerlogger :biggrin: .

So tell your buddy to slow down or no more joy rides.

Nope. If he had the car out for two hours and their was no log or a broken log... that would be suspicious

I would imagine he could unplug it but how is he going to explain the difference in miles on the car with logging? Face it, he's busted and has to drive the safely.
