Yeah, a plugged catalytic convertor. I got it turned up to 24psi a few times and got a couple Vipers under my belt but never took it back to the track.

how do you like the te64 and how many more cfm's does it flow over the te49? Also, how did you get it in? Was installing it the same as installing a te49 or did you have to do something different?

I like the 64 but the car has to be set up for it if you want it streetable. I only had it running with the 64 for a short time. I don't remember how much more if flows than a 49 but it's signifigant. Once into the higher boost levels, the power was unreal.

To make it spool nice on the street, you need ported heads and intake, at least a 3,200 stall convertor, 3" elbowless DP no catalytic convertor, and a good chip that runs lean off the start to get it to spool ok. TB relocation is a must also. Before some of those things were done it was a pig. If I wanted to pass someone in traffic I would have to floor it and back off as the boost slowly came in. With a little tuning and the addition of the 3" DP it made a huge difference in spool. My goal is 10s. If you're going for 11s or slower I would stick with the 49 as it spools way better, especially if your car has small problems like the occasional exhaust leak.

Mine was built as a TA turbo. it's in the stock 87 compressor housing so it bolts up just like a 49 would. It's getting converted as soon as I have the money. I modified my intake manifold so I now have the clearance for the TE housing.

for an exhaust, I plan on going with some KB headers which I already have, a good dp and up, and a single 3" exhaust pipe. (How loud will this be?)Now on the dp It looks like I'll have to make my own. I came across a new 3" elbow that is the perfect candidate for a dp. Since I got it for free, this makes it even better! I just think that I can do just as good of a job as these other companies do. Plus I just dont see myself paying $300+ for a dp. Maybe its just me, but I like to do as much as possible myself.

pt51

I was just doing a little research and it seems that the pt51 is also a pretty good deal. Now to get this to fit, will I have to do the same to it as I would do a ta49? Or will this require a few more mods? The only problem I forsee is a possible actuator fitting problem?

Whether or not it's true, many people claim the pt-51 has flaws that make it sieze. Personally I wouldn't buy one just to be safe.

well that sucks, it at least seemed to be a good deal. Does any one know the largest turbo that can be fitted in the stock position without any clearance problems? This just being out of curiousity;)

edit...
Cool84, do you have any pics of your tb reloc yet? If you have any, please send them because Im planning to do this real soon. Also, how exactly is it done again? Am I just getting an elbow of some sort and fitting it or what? And what about the throttle cable, do I use the stock one or do I use a different one off of a 86/87 gn?

I really wish I knew how to post pictures or email them. I found some, I need help lol. I'll give it a try, let me know if it works.

I sent you some pictures, let me know if they got there. I've never tried it before. I think I've got more, with a little more detail if you would like.

The stock cable won't reach, at least not the way I do it. I'm not sure about the others. I got a cable off of a FWD car with the Buick motor or you can use an 86-87 cable. All you need is about 3 more inches. For the elbow, the Spearco unit will work fine, it just looks a little restrictive since it necks down to 1.5" at one spot. I used a 3"cast elbow, tilted it back slightly toward the firewall and it now clears the turbo easier than the tiny spearco unit. The only prob is it's not a bolt on deal, it has to be welded and the back of the intake has to be ground slightly to accomidate the slight angle.

Thanks a lot! I forgot how dirty my engine bay was back then. I'll have to take some newer pics when I get the motor in. I've worked a lot of the bugs out and it looks much cleaner now, especially with a new wiring harness.

napa pipes

now, I went and checked w/ few NAPA stores and I didnt see any thing for pipes that looked like it would work for me. So if any of you guys still have the part #'s on hand, could you please let me know so I dont have to go on any more wild goose chases!!!
Also, which clamps are the best? I went to a few diesel parts stores and they seem to have a few hundred different clamps. I was told the T-clamps or the spring-clamps are the best for what Im doing. But before I make my purchase, I wanted to make sure which ones are really the best.

NAPA might have the bends but you will pay triple if you go there. Go to any good exhaust shop. All mine is, is a tailpipe section that had various bends that I cut and coupled with the silicone hose.

The T-bolt clamps are the best and the T-bolts with the springs like I have are even better but cost a few more bucks. Regular hose clamps will do the job fine but seem to loosen up over time and will blow off if you don't flare the ends of the pipe.
