I was out doing some testing and tuning the other night and all went wel. Until I came home and shut her down, after the ignition was off as the engine stopped I heard some sort nasty metallic banging. Made the same sound while cranking but went away once it lit off and was idleing. Everything sounds normal at idle and reving. Oil pressure is about 14 psi hot, right where it has always been. I'm thinking I tore up a motor/trans mount or the TC may have loosened up. Has anyone else had this happen?

Can you duplicate the noise again? Does it only happen when you turn the ign. off? I would check the externally bolted on stuff first like pullies maybe came loose or torque converter bolts loose?

Mine was doing sort of the same thing and I found a broken bolt on my alternator bracket where it bolts to the head and I also found another bolt loose on the same bracket. Just a shot in the dark.

Yup, I can make it do it again, but only on start-up and shutdown. When it's running everything is silent as it should be. I haven't tried brake torquing it yet to see how much the engine moves. I'm going to check it out maybe tomorrow when I get home from work. I was thinking along the same lines of it being something external. Just looking for some more ideas of what to check.

Good News, I just pulled the TC shield and when I grab the converter I can rock it back and forth by hand. It's nice to be able to fix things without spending $$$$. :D I'm going to head out now and tighten everything back up.

Put blue loctite on the bolts or you will be hearing that sound again soon...

Wooo Hooo, good news, I was starting to worry that it was something drastic.
