I plan on getting my THDP jet hot coated. I was wondering which or thier coatings I can use. Sterling (chrome appearing finish) which stands temps up to 1300 degrees, Extreme Sterling (also chrome appearing) which stands temps. to 1700 degrees, or Jet-Hot 2000 (which only comes in black, blue, or grey) which stands temps. to 2450 degrees. The Sterling has a much more appealing finish but would it withstand EGTs in the downpipe? Looking for opinione from those who have used Jet-Hot or know how high the exhaust temps. can climb in our cars as I am not very experienced with EGTs yet.
Thanks, Dan

Hey-
Don't use jet-hot. It's a rip off, and their customer service/quality control is sub par. I use the Powder Barons in Middletown de. They applied a two stage coating to my exhaust housing and down pipe, with a primer coat of 2000* coating and a cermakrome top coat.

I haven't finished installing everything, but the stuff looks great. It was really cheap too which is always a plus.

I have used the basic Black jet hot on motorcycle pipes for years... My current bike has a flame thrower... It has held up to all of my abuse, but then again it's black.

No where do I see what exhaust temperature Powder Barons coating is rated at, or what they will guarantee. At least, Jet-Hot, HPC, and some others will state that in writing. No one else guarantees their "chrome-colored" coatings much above 1300º, for higher temps one generally needs the black or grey coatings.

I used the Jet Hot 2000 gray coating on my THDP and it looks just like it did when I took out of the box from them 5 years or so later. It doesn't have the bling factor as it is a dull gray but I have enough chrome stuff to make up for that.:D

Had my THDP coated by Jet Hot last year. At the time, the coating I chose was experimental and rated @ 1800* ( believe it was called YK15 ). It looks much like Sterling, with just a touch less gloss. This is probably what is refered to as the Extreme Sterling now ( not positive ). Jet Hot is tops in my book---I had an exhaust coated 16 yrs ago in Sterling, and it finally showed some rust through last year. Everything I coat is Jet Hot. Brian

I'd also recommend doing a search, there's a few other good coaters out there that people have used. I used powder barons because they were cheap, came highly recommended, and could do the two stage coating I wanted. Jet Hot quoted me 225 to do my exhaust housing, and Powder Barons did all my stuff above in the two stage coating for 145. A few other guys on here and tbs.com have used them too with good results.

Thermal coating stuff makes it look good for awhile. But it REALLY hinders repairing cracks that will STILL happen. Coating your down pipe is fine as long as there is still a good hanger in the stock location behind the Cat., or the downpipe will crack too. I have welded a few of them over time. Just something to factor in.
