Just wondering I used to own one and the friend that I sold it to is fixing to start restoring his.

Actually I'm going to be doing most of the work I think (He'll con me into it).

Just would like to see if anyone here likes these little cars.

here's a link to the picture of the one I had:

Sorry about all the adds that tripod puts on the site.

Well current plans are a turbo 2.0L opel engine, but we're just in the planning stages right now. Basically trying to figure what needs to go into the car (motor, engine, suspension, etc.) to have a reliable 200hp Opel GT (Only need that because of the weight being around 2000lbs.)

And in its defense it was sold by buick :)

Do you know anything about these things being sold in Germany. I think I've seen one or two roaming around here.

Yes, Opel is a german car company.

They were imported to the U.S. from 69-73.

I'd imagine the ones you've seen are fairly rusty or have been well mantained they do rust rather badly.

If I was redoing the car myself I'd wish to be in Germany to do it (Parts are cheaper there and the other opel engines are easier to come by).

There's a very nice looking one around here that I see every now and then. Look brand new. Nice cars for the period, ahead of their time.

I think there is a guy on the other board that is in the process of dropping an LC2 into an Opel. I could be wrong though.

i only saw 1 opel gt i liked...... red, had a GN motor in and was running 7's. that little thing AWSOME .

I think there was someone here with one with a GN motor in it!

I love Opel GTs I was looking for one as a project for a while but never found one nearby that wasnt a rustbox

John Schmidt from Ohio has a BAD ASS twin turbo Stage 2 Opal GT one of my favorite cars around

I loved those cars. I had A 70 GT that my dad had bought new. My brothers first car was a 69 gt. He still has it, and now it is a tube chassis small block chevy car on the bottle.
I think the cars were imported for and sold by Buick! Am I right on this??
Again, very cool cars!

Hmmm...I Don't think so,

Ever heard of a Lotus Elan.

My mom bought one new in 1969.
They had bean making them for several years before that.
Here is a picture of a 68

Let me just add this...

MAZDA TOTALY RIPPED OFF THE BODY STYLE!!!

They aren't very fast and they don't have very big tires for traction. But they handle like they are on a rail.

I reciently watched a historic race that Danny Sullivan was in somewhere in Europe. They raced at several different tracks around the country.Danny was driving a Jag E type and there was a little Lotus Elan in front of him, they were first and second the whole way.
He couldn't pass for nothing. The Elan pulled several car lengths on him around corners. The Jag would come close to catching him but they kept hitting corners. They were both going at it hard late breaking with smoke coming off the tires a few times each.
It was fun to watch and the Lotus wone.
