I never figured out the year mentality either. I can understand something like 25 years but not a specific year. Lets see, if the cutoff is 1974 does that mean I can bring in a 73 Mustang and my 74 Mustang 2 but not my 78 Mustang 2 King Cobra? Just kidding, I dont own any Fords, just dragging out chit for an arguement. It just doesn't make any sense and I bet the guys running the front gate know that. I've never had a big problem getting into a cut off show. Now if this was 10 to 15 years ago and I had a NA Regal there would have been no way in hell I would have gotten in. Age(both car and driver) and special interest are the two key words when dealing with these clowns.

Than there is the classic arguement as a lot of street rods are just fiberglass bodies and late model crate motors. Lets see, its okay to use the motor from a brand new car but not okay to let the rest of the car in? Just tell them your new Shelby 500 is a 32 Ford with a body kit and see what they have to say about that.

When a show or cruise night person tells me something like that crap Mark I just say... shame is'nt it.. My GN is damn near 20 years old.. 2 cylinders less then any car in this lot.. and it can kick the sh!t out of any car in this lot as well!

Pretty much what I told him with a few more profanities thrown in for good measure.

Another funny thing is the street rods and Cobra kit cars that don't have one vintage part on them that are allowed in.

The thing that pissed me off is I drove right by the entrance to the cruise and no one said a word. One of their guys even helped park the car. When I opened the hood I had a big crowd around the car.

I can understand the ricer thing but all that would take is a no imports notice but I myself don't mind looking at those if they are done right. Any high performance car is of interest to me as well as antiques.

This is pretty much the standard here in CT, most shows do have a cutoff date. Funniest one is a a nearby university that has a 72 cutoff date. They have a HUGE parking lot AND the show is for charity. Why would you turn away "newer" cars that would generate more donations to their cause.

Will be good going to a Buick event on Sat!

START YOUR OWN SHOW across the street & say NOTHING before 1960 allowed.. :D

Yup, there were plenty of Cobra kit cars in there along with a few streetrods sporting LS1 or LS6 motors. So I guess if it resembles something older than 1974 it can still use a motor thats four years old. In fact, that just makes it cool to these guys but you cant have an all original GN (down to the original tires) there because its just to new.

Had the same experience.Drove an hour to go to a really organized, well attended cruise night.Got there early set up,no problems. Then some older dude came up and said 1975,or older son.LOL I am 43.He said you can stay this week but don't come back.Well...I drew a large crowd.Always do.As we were driving out we passed the guy.My wife said "Sorry our car intimidates some of those old clunkers, feel free to line em up any time"! He just hung his head.North of the border Dave.

1 rare t: Another good one.. Roll into a cruise with a TTA. You get the same reaction just about.

+1.. The hate is really big on the lonesome TTA..

I usually say and it doesnt help.. "Hey I saw a bunch of those cars at the Junkyard this morning" :D

What you got to love are the 2006 cars at the car shows

That really gets under my skin. I was at a show last spring that had a lot of really cool classic and custom cars. There was even an original Bat Mobile with a title stating "Bat Mobile" :p

Anyways, there was a row of Mustangs probably 15 long with only two of them being actual classic cars. All the others were 03 and 04 Cobras and a couple were 05 GT's. I lost all hope in "spectator" vote after that show because, you should have guessed by now, the 05 (with dealer tag) won the Best of Show trophy. :o

What really ticks me off is when someone says..."Wow honey, check out the Monte Carlo" I tell them "Bite your tongue! It's a Buick".........

From my viewpoint on the So Cal car shows and cruises, most shows and cruises do not allow post '72 or '73 cars in. I do believe that the tide is changing, though. I have seen and heard of car shows going downhill on spectator and entrant attendance that some of the shows are now allowing in cars that were not allowed before. Due to finincial reasons. Good, let them go broke, they never sponsored the turbo Buicks anyway.

The Claremont CA monthly show might be worth checking out.

Although the majority of cars are 50s-60s, it's not uncommon for a modern corvette or viper to be there. To me that's pretty dull, as anybody who can write a big check to a new car dealer becomes an owner, and he doesn't even have to know how to change the oil.

But that makes me optimistic the organizers might let in some Turbo Buicks, if we asked nice. There's one last Claremont show for 2006, on Oct 14. My GN's presently not running, or I'd ask.

Tom:
I know most of the shows/cruises locally that allow turbo Buicks in. Fuddruckers in Lake Forest on tuesday nights is the best one that I know of for a cruise. They welcome all cars, newer cars park in their own area. I will send you a list rather than take up forum space.

Here is a good one for you guys.. Went to a cruise Friday night at Jackson, NJ at this mall. On a normal night they get around 1000 to 1500 cars. So we went in the daily drivers to check it out first and they have a sign cars 74 and older only. But we saw many new cars there. This area is very wealthy so there was a number of Ferd GT's there new mustangs, Cobras, Saleen's you name it. We this month we come with 3 GN's They told us to park outside the taped off area. Frank was with my (FlyinGN) and he saw some new Mustangs and 3 Ferd GT's so we parked by them. So many people came up and went nuts over the GN's. They were happy to see us.. As I'm walking around I see the people running the show. There were about 20 or 30 people running this cruise it's so big. Anyways they all had fluorescent green shirts on that read in huge letters on the front... "what part of 74 and older don't you understand". I could not believe they would go to that level to have shirts made up. I could see if it was a big ricer area but it's not. IMO all these shows need to do is say.. rear wheel drive American muscle cars only and or classic imports. That keeps the rice out and gives you a nice wide range of cars. It was such an awesome cruise to be with that many cars but it blew me away they had those shirts on!

Sorry, but I don't believe that this has anything to do with imports, these are just people that really are lost in the '50's & '60's. When confronted, they use imports as an excuse. They really just don't like our late model Buicks. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I would of not minded if it's pre 72 but when they let 80 model vette's in that ticked me off.
Funny this is not just a local trend but something all over.
The cruise in my town let's everyone in and I like to look at all the cars, even those that jump up n down.

Haters

1972 and older...Ha They are just mad that the turbo Buicks are so much better than the old iron. Right out of the box, quicker, better handling, better braking, better ride. They are just haters.
What's with the lame '50s music blasting at these things.
Come on man, wake up

Years ago when I first got my 66 Chevelle I wanted to join up with some sort of club and the only ones around were street rod clubs. They wouldn't let me join back then because my car was too new.

Anyway, I ended up starting my own club in 1984 that allowed any cars in to our events. We were one of the first clubs in CT to run cruise nites and have shows that catered to high performance cars but never barred any vehicles from attending.

We had shows at Moroso Performance and later Echlin's facility (company that manufactures ACCEL products) The club had a 20 year run and we eventually disbanded when many key members either moved away, got divorced, had kids or on to other interests. Guess I should have tried to keep it going.

geez here in Ri if you did an all efi cruise, there wouldnt be an empty spot. i'd say at one of the biggest cruise ins i go to, its about 50/50 mix between carbed oldies and newer efi cars.

Might be that way on your end of the country Gary but here on the east we have a major import problem. They are everywhere and come out in droves and most of them in primer! So I can deal with them trying to keep any and all imports out. I know shows and cruises that had to be stopped because those piles of rice crap took the place over. But when something classic like the turbo Buicks roll into a cruise or show they should let them in. I've never been to a show or cruise where people just walked on by the cars. Everyone always stops and looks!

I think that there are geographical/cultural differences between the east and West coast that a lot of people are not aware of. From a lot of the pics of the East coast car shows and cruises that I see on the net, or maybe it is just me that sees it that way. On the east Coast, I see a lot of the colored lights under the car or under the hood lighting the motor compartment and wheelwells, especially the show pics. That seems to be taboo on the West coast. Don't see much of it here other than the imports. DVD screens in vehicles does not seem to be too popular out here, other than the rich and famous. The imports seem to stay pretty much to themselves out here, other than they seem to have places that they consider import car territory. The East coast turbo Buick & TTA crowd seems to stay & hang together a lot more than we do out here. The only way that you can get more than 3 or 4 West coast turbo Buick & TTA crowd together is if you offer free food. That's what I see in So Cal anyhow, maybe not in the balance of the Southwestern section though. How many people do you know on the right coast that has to look out west to find a turbo Buick or tta car. Pretty much nobody, right. How many people on the left coast have to look easternly to find a turbo Buick or tta, we all do on the left coast. Any nice cars out here are not for sale. Where do cars sell for more.........left coast, naturally.
Just some of the things that I have noticed between the 2. I still think that we are not allowed in a lot of car shows is because our cars are envied, but not liked when we own them.
