Just received my very own GN 86 can anyone help me??

Aloha to all,

1. I just received my very own 87 GN. The problems that I’ve been having is that this car shuts down in the middle of the freeway, let it sit for a couple of seconds, turn the key and it starts up again. Does anyone know what the problem is to this?

2. I’m also experiencing rough idol with the engine and emits of white smoke during the idol; is this normal?

3. I also need a new turbo; is it better to buy a new or a rebuilt one? And what brand?

4. I normally cool the turbo down by letting the car sit for couple of minutes or so, is there a better way of handling this situation? Is there a part that could be installed to cool down the turbo faster?

To who ever answers the following questions thanks so much, I need people like you with the knowledge and experience that you all have.

well white smoke means coolant in the cylinders. could be the intake gasket, the head gasket or the head itself. pull you dipstick and see what the oil looks like. is it white-greenish milky colored? that usually means a head/head gasket prob since its letting coolant into the oil. if the oil looks clean its usually the intake letting coolant into the cylinder to burn, or the head cracked in the comb chamber or somethin. fix yer smoke prob first.

It could be the module. Are you getting the service engine soon light? Find someone there with a coil pack tester or someone that will let you swap their module/coil pack to see if that is the problem.

shutting off problem

i had the exact same problem with my 85 gn, it would just shut off randomly while driving. and if i would wait a couple minutes it would come back to life. i replaced the ECM (computer) and the problem never returned.

Its located inside your car, beneath your glove box compartment, right on the side, its in a holder, so you have to unscrew it and just slide it out I think j/k
