There is many debate concerning the true performance of the K&N filters.

Lots of people complaint having oil in there system. The sucking action of the engine get all the oil in the system.

You can read many forum either bless them or hate them.

I need a new filter soon, my old K&N filter is damage and real dirty from age.

What your thought on this?

While I have no evidence that the filter performs (airflow) or filters better than others, I can say that if filter oil mucks up your MAF then you have too much oil on it. I've used the same K&N since 2001 and over 75k miles with the original MAF - no oil.

Clean the filter and don't overdo the oiling

K&N makes a filter cleaning kit. Spray it with the cleaner, let it dry and re-oil it. Just take it easy on the oil.

Hi,

I used to have a K&N installed in my BMW, Jeep and Caddy. About a year ago, I had problems with my BMW stalling and idling rough. The car got towed to the dealer and the MAF was the problem. The service advisor and mechanic (which I know for over 10 yrs) claim that the K&N filter created the problem and that they have seen this problem numerous times. My K&N filter was brand new from the box when installed in my BMW. Since this episode, I switched all my air filters to oem for each vehicle.

Bought a 2001 Oldsmoble Aurora two weeks ago
MPG was 21-22
Put on a K&N jumped to 26 city then 29 highway no other changes

Use it on my 2001 Duramax with K&N air box, mpg went from 17-21

Not had any problems, used them for years

You'd have to have it way oversaturated with oil for any of it to get sucked in by engine vacuum.

I've never had a problem with the K&N air filters, but I have heard of people over oiling them and it causing maf problems. Spray off the maf with some CNC maf cleaner if this happens.

K&N should never be used on a turbo diesel. Use a fleetguard element or similar.

I think because of the good air flow the K&N filters have, they dont filter the air close to a oem filter. On both my daily drivers the oil looks dirtier since changing to a K&N. I change the oil more frequently because of this.

i don't like the K&N filter because they are easily messed up from rubbing on stuff. i use an AEM filter. the AEM filter needs no oil and i can abuse it and it doesn't mess it up.......Bob

+1 The key word in air filter is "FILTER". K&N's are poor filters. I use to use them until I found a lot of dirt in the mass air flow sensor and inlet tube. I went back to using a paper filter. No dirt issues since. JMHO
