WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING IS VERY COMMON WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. FIRST I WILL TELL YOU WHATS HAPPENING THEN WE WILL DISCUSS WHY. THE DELAY YOU FEEL IS CAUSED BY THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES THE CLUTCH PACK (OR CLUTCH PACKS) TO RELEASE DURING A KICK DOWN. A 4-2 KICK DOWN TAKES LONGER THAN A 3-2 KICKDOWN BECAUSE 2 PACKS MUST EXHAUST IN ORDER FOR THE DRIVEN MEMBER OF THE GEAR SET TO ROTATE AROUND THE HELD MEMBER. IE: 2ND GEAR. THE FIRST CAUSE OF THIS COULD BE THAT THE PLUNGER IS NOT FULLY OPENING THE DETENT CIRCUIT WHEN THE ACCELORATOR IS PRESSED OR THE HOLE IN THE PLUNGER WAS NOT DRILLED AT THE PROPER DEPTH FROM THE FACTORY.( OR WAS IT DONE ON PURPOSE TO DELAY A PARTS BREAKING KICK DOWN) THE SECOND CAUSE MAY BE THAT THE EXHAUST HOLES FOR THE CLUTCH PACK(S) IS OBSTRUCTED WITH DEBRIS (OVERFILLING THE TRANSMISSION AGGRIVATES THIS) AS THESE HOLES ARE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE VALVE BODY. I PERSONALLY LIKE A DELAY IN THE KICK DOWN AS LONG AS IT IS NOT TOO LONG BECAUSE IT SOFTENS TORTIONAL LOAD AND TWISTING OF INTERNAL PARTS. BY OPENING(DRILLING) AND CLOSING(ORFICING) THESE HOLES WE CAN CONTROL THE RATE OF CLUTCH EXHAUST AND KICK DOWN SPEED. CHECK OUT OUR SITE AT CK PERFORMANCE. THANX CHRIS
