Hey guys,

I'm wondering if knock sensors go bad (I can only assume that they do, but I've never heard anyone talking about it). And if they do, where can I get a replacement (Part number, etc.) and how the hell do you change it out?

When I first got the car, and got a knock gauge, and later a scanmaster, it would show a little knock anytime I got past 3/4 throttle. After a new fuel pump, and turning up the fuel pressure, and eventually a new chip (turbotweak) the car started running right, and I noticed I would flat out not get any knock. At first I though I'd just done something right and fixed my car, but now I'm wondering if the sensor crapped out. It never shows any knock, even when cranking (which it used to all the time, on the caspers gauge) and even if i really wail on the throttle, and i hear what to me sounds like pinging or knocking, i don;t even get a blip on the scanmaster or caspers.... I run 93 octane, and the boost is hitting anywhere from 10-12 psi.

any help would be appreaciated. thanks guys!!

With the engine running in the car take a hammer or wrench and tap on the block. Have someone inside looking at the Knock gauge to see if anything appears on the gauge. After a few good taps with your hammer/wrench and the gauge does not light up you: A) Need a new Knock sensor B)Check your connections for the gauge or C) Your knock gauge is broken(rarely ever happens)

Where is the knock sensor located, and what all is involved in replacing one?

The knock sensor is located on the back of the block below the intake. They are pretty easy to replace but it very tight with the firewall.

Make SURE you install the new sensor "dry" at 14 ftlb of torque.
If you know someone you can borrow a calibrated wrench from, you may want to buy them luch and use it.
