Just thought I'd post a company I use on a regular basis. http://www.oillab.com/ They test any fluid on your car. I send my oil, Trans, and rear fluids to them all the time! An ounce of prevention... It's only $21.50 plus $5 S&H. Dirt cheap when it comes to knowing what's going on inside your engine.
When I first got my car I had this ever so slight knocking noise. The car was bone stock with 90K on it so a million things could be making this noise.. Idler, water pump, alt, Cam sensor, or even worse the bearings! So I call the oil lab and they sent me a kit (test tube and paper work) you don't pay till you send the kit back in. You mail them the test kit back with your sample and check or money order. They are real nice people to work with. Their web site sometimes craps out so I would use the 1-800 to order a kit.
Back to the car.. While the sample was out being tested. usually takes a week or so.. I'm taking the car to work one day and on 95 the engine lets loose. Rod knock city. I tow it to Jim Dunn and they start working on it. Meanwhile the results from the kit come back and sure enough.. It showed major bearing wear! They tell you what's in your oil and if the levles are safe. They also had a note on the bottom of my report.. "This engine will need a major over haul soon!" So if I would have checked in the first place it might have been a little cheaper then blowing the engine up! When I blew it up I did it right and needed a new block and all! It's a cheap cheap way to be sure! I test all my fluids on a regular basis! No more suprises for me!
Just wanted to let you guys know about them. Even with low mile cars, Turbo Buicks all had bad dry start problems. And over time.. this wears on the bearings. So if you want to be sure.. have your fluids tested on a regular basis and you'll be a happy turbo Buick owner! :D

Sounds like a good idea. My tranny builder reccomended I do that with the tranny fluid every year.

You guys will be addicted to it! :) I'm about ready to order some kits for the daily driver fluids ;) :D

I have a friend that has a fleet service contract, with a service, I forget which one off hand. But, when I lost an injector, and ruined a piston, we sent in a sample before pulling the engine. 3 days later he got an email with a high priority notice, saying to immediately pull the engine out of service, for high AL content in the oil. They were 100% right, all the bearing material was still intact, and everything looked fine other then galling the top ring, and a slight amount of the crown, looks to have left thru the exhaust port.

That is the nice thing! For what it cost's to have the fluids checked.. it can save you thousands down the road.. I don't know about you guys but I'm all about saving thousands!! :) :D :D

IF the report would have come back sooner,What would you have done to prevent your motor from taking a sh!t.

Just seems like a waste of money to me..
If you would have had excessive fuel in the oil, then that woulkd be different, but then again you would smell that...

again I cant convince myself that its worth the hassel...

How often do you sniff your dipstick?, oh wait, I don't really want to know..... :)

If you're just running too much timing, say in cruise mode, it'll show a higher then normal amount of bearing material in the oil. Can you *see* that?. The analyse is very, very well done. In some fleets they schedule engine overhauls on oil analyse.

Then again, some people never flush the tranny fluid, brake fluid, coolant, and wonder why they have short tranny life's, not so great brake pedal, or push thru the brakes when staging, or a hot running engine, or wake up to a cracked block.

If you're really on top of you PM, then maybe it's not such a big deal, but if you like being able to shedule maintance, rather then just hearing a bearing knock, as a surprise, then it pays.

wow can't believe anyone would even think that over 22 bucks and some change it's not worth the hassle even tho there is no hassle IMO....

If I got the report back BEFORE it let go.. I could have stopped driving the car and taken it to Jim Dunn and his crew to rebuild before it came apart. But because I didn'nt know and drove the car it cost me a block, crank, turbo, and allot of other internal organs!! I would have saved about 2K on the rebuild.. so you tell me.. is it worth it.. seems there is no other answer then yes.

When my engine let go I was on 95 doing 60mph in the middle lane under no boost.. being I was on 95 that made it worse I'm sure. Keep in mind I took my car to a few guys who listend to it and all of them pretty much ruled out a rod knock. They all thought it was something else. So I didn't think nothing of it.. then I found the oil lab and sent the oil out asap. And this is why I sent it out.

Some people drive their cars like they stole it.. So if that's the story pretend you never saw this post :D :D

If you pee in the test kit will it tell you what kind of problems you have?

:p
