Anybody know of a good one? Something that can have a bunch of sensors connected to it. Even better would be something that can pull data from ALDL connector.

WinALDL is the program you are looking for, it's outdated and slow but does work.

Dataq logging instruments is an option. Can log 0-5v sensors and other various input signals.

The Dataq is interesting. Not sure if can log RPMs from the HEI distributor? It would be great for the TPS, MAP, coolant and wideband. Maybe VSS too. I bet the knock module too.

You could look into the LogWorks stuff Inovate sells. I think PLX may have similar, and perhaps Zeitronix

It looks like both the WinALDL and the OBD1 cable will do CCC carb engines, but only 1984 and later.

The 1982-83 Turbo V6 is a LC8 code. I can't find the exact protocol is uses, but it's looking like it is 160 baud, which would equal about one sample per second. :(

The sampling interval is specified at exactly 1.25 seconds.

This is Gen 0.1. :D

Yea, ALDL isn't going to useful alone. So even if I can find an ALDL laptop program, it will need supplemental inputs as well.

(I've been spoiled by my OBD2 3800. HP Tuners lets you record and change things so easily.

This is what amazes me about the smog law here in California.

More recent cars you can tinker with the computer. Presumably if you do it wrong you'll flunk the tailpipe, except that now they're starting to move toward skipping the tailpipe and just relying on OBDII to tell them if anything's wrong.

But if I so much as install a heated O2 sensor, I'm immediately flunked just for that, no matter how well it works.

And there's no sunset here anymore, it's smogcheck forever!

Here in Illinois, they don't test anything older the 1996. The tailpipe testing gone. They only do OBD2 cars and they are even installing self service kiosks. No check engine light, you pass.

Best you could probably do without EFI is to add a standalone wideband controller and use that to tune your A/F R.

It's hard to believe we have a drought out here ....
