Larger Turbo Mounting Question

Stupid question, when a turbo the size of a T66 is mounted is the header flange the only thing that supports the turbo? What about the factory turbo flange that comes up and over the top of the turbo is it just discarded?

Ok so if I want to retain my turbo shield I'm guessing I need to pull the exhanust housing bolts and housing off my old turbo so I can swap the retaining tabs w/ the stock mount points on them for the top turbo support bracket to the new turbo. Do I replace the new turbos exhaust housing retaining tabs or just add the old ones over the top of the current new ones? It appears there would be plenty of threads left on the bolts since they don't get tightened very tight.

Just loosen the 6 bolts retaining the exhaust housing, then remove the bolts so you can remove the retainer and replace it with the stock retainer with the rabbitt ears. you will have to rotate the housing to remove a few of the bolts. Pay attention to the location of the exhaust housing to the center section, maybe mark it so it is returned to its original clocking position.
