I have tried 3 different local repair shop and numerous differnet individuals on getting my car fixed to to avail.....I am not looking for a screamer i just want the 12000 car that i bought in august of 2001 and put 60miles on it before it broke to run again. i have replaced almost every electrical senesor on it...coil pack, crank sensor, computer, mass airflow,map,tps,ect... to avail it will still crank and never start so here is my offer.

I will give to anyone who can get this car started (just running if i can drive it on its own power at least 5 feet this year i will be happy) a 3.8 turbo engine and trans out of a 85 GN that i bought thinking that might help (the guy i bought these items from said ran fine when pulled(last december) car hit in rear and totaled.

I wish I was near you cause I would be over there in a second for that motor and tranny.

These things are pretty straight forward to trouble shoot. You need spark (at the right time), compression, and fuel to start. Find out which one you're missing and go from there. See if you have fuel at the rail first by pressing the schreider valve, it's the easiest thing to test. Let us know.

check that little nipple thing like a tire plug and fuel did come out in abundance.

So the pump is working. Next, unplug an injector wire and use a test light on the terminals while cranking to see if the injectors are firing or pull a spark plug and make sure you can smell fuel on it. Then check for spark.

Have you had it on a scanner yet to check all the sensors?

ok

well first off as the people said turn the key to the on postion go to the engine bay and press on the nipple like a tire fitting and see if fuel prayes out. if not there is a problem. 2nd. check the injectors harness unplug an injector wire and use a test light on the terminals while cranking to see if the injectors are firing. 3rd check to see if the injectors are shooting fuel there should be plunty of fuel on the plugs after u keep cracking it. 3rd make sure you got spark. you can use your own method of this..... ok after you make sure there is spark . now there is some other was to go. 4th check to make sure the cam sensor is in right. 5th make sure you got a correct ecm if not i can send you one. 6th make sure u got the right maf. i tryed 7 different ones befroe i got the right one. alll it would do is spit and idle funny then die and ****.... 7th you said map sensor did u go to a 86-87 ecm? ok also tps. you can have a 86-87 style tps on your car so let us know where you got that. with all this the car should start help use out on some info. like where u got some of the parts like whats the #'s on the ecm maf tps and stuff like that so we can make sure u got all the right parts. let use know man. i really dont have room for the motor and tranny as my mom would kill me for having more buick parts in the gaurage but what the hell i will take it........ i hope you get your car running man...

hey

also you might want to check you crank sensor. make sure the crank sensor is set correctly. you can find out how to do this on www.gnttype.org humm if i can think of anything else i will post

i think i should be getting motor and tranny soon :)

I could use an engine myself! However, since I won't be doing most of the following work, I won't expect anything! ;)

Below is a series of tests to troubleshoot a 'no-start' condition. Hopefully it will be of some help! :)
-----------------------
-----------------------

Below are links to repair manual pictures to reference from:

ECM Plug
Sensor Plugs

You'll need to get at the ECM and the cam & crank sensors to do some voltage tests. If you have a NEEDLE type voltmeter, it may work better for these tests, as it will visibly "swing" when the sensor switches open & close (IF they're working okay!)

Here goes:

First, test your meter and ground! (see ECM Plug) Check connection A-6, "ign, ECM fuse" for 12 volts. (for ALL tests, BE SURE the negative lead of the voltmeter is connected to a GOOD GROUND!)

#1- (see ECM Plug) With the key off, disconnect the ECM A-B connector. With the positive lead of the voltmeter, probe the B-5 connection (highlighted yellow, this is the crank sensor signal) Crank the engine and watch the meter...you should have varying voltage from 1 to 7 volts.
If NOT okay, proceed to #2.
If you ARE seeing correct voltage, your cam & crank sensors are okay, and your coil and/or ignition module may be the problem! You need to loosen the coilpack, and check the BLUE wire for 12 volts, key on. If it DOES have 12 volts, then the problem is likely the ignition module.

#2- now probe the A-11 connection... (highlighted green, this is the cam sensor signal). Crank the engine...you should have varying voltage from 1 to 9 volts.
If it IS okay, THE CAM SENSOR IS FINE, AND YOU ONLY NEED TO TEST THE CRANK SENSOR IN ALL FURTHER TESTS!
If it's NOT okay, there's no cam sensor signal!

Plug the ECM connector back in, and head for the sensors!

#3 (see "Sensor Plug") Unplug the cam sensor plug. Turn the key "ON" ...On the MODULE SIDE of the plug, probe the "A" wire for voltage, after which probe the "B" wire for voltage. You should have between 5 and 11 volts on BOTH wires.
If you ARE seeing correct voltage, THEN: with the negative lead of the voltmeter, probe the "C" wire, and with the positive lead probe the "A" wire. You should have between 5 and 11 volts. Note the results, then REPEAT THIS TEST WITH THE CRANK SENSOR PLUG!

If ANY of the sensor plug tests FAILED, you have a probably ignition module problem...
If ALL the sensor plug tests PASSED, then PLUG IN the sensor plugs, and proceed:

#4. Test the cam sensor: Probe the "B" wire of the cam sensor, then crank the engine and watch the meter. You SHOULD have varying voltage between 1/2 and 9 volts. REPEAT THIS TEST WITH THE CRANK SENSOR!

If either sensor fails this test, then it's possible that sensor is bad! If they PASS this test, it's likely the ignition module, or the connections TO the ignition module are bad)

Hope this makes sense!

BFH, are you going to Vegas this year? If you make it I could probably bring my extra motor with me for a good deal. Might be a long drive home with a motor in the car for you though.

bring that tranny too bitch:Di'll throw it in the trunk and take it home.

I'm going to pull the pan and see what it looks like. I've honestly never driven the car so I have no idea what kind of shape the tranny is in. If it needs work, I can have our builder fix what's wrong cheap. BTW, is Vegas happening for sure?
