Sad day this is the last full day of production of the 3.8 liter engine. This engine has been named one of the the top ten in the world many times.Has performance as we all know, and still delivers good gas mileage.Much better than many of the 4 cylinders GM and others are making!!!

It's hard to believe this day would ever come. I'm always making fun at the Pontiacs because they haven't had a real Pontiac motor since 81 unless you want to count the 2.5 IronDuke 4 banger that was dropped in 93. A Buick just aint a Buick unless there is some legacy left in it's heritage IMO. I could always change my POV seeing as the 3.6 is one fine motor but not having The Buick City facility around to screw them together just doesn't make it right.

I like my Roadmaster with the LT1 but it just feels like an expensive Chevy to me.

You know I still see a few of the old odd-fire 225/231 V-6s in the boneyards. Something tells me I'll still be seeing the Series 3800 30 years from now. It's a shame the Buick V-6 didn't make it to the 50 year mark like the SBC.

The 3.8 in my now defunct OLDS is a great Motor. 141k & is tough as nails. Just for fun I brought this FWD Grampy car to the drags at the 129k miles & it pounded out a 16 second run. Not bad for a 1996 LS. You could add the 1.7 rockers, remove the cat, add a little laugh gas & I bet this tank could be high 14's.

In some shape or form they will use or have used this design in future motors.
I thinK the Lacross has a 3.5 that cranks out 240hp.. same hp as what the 3.8 with supercharger did? Am I correct.

It was 245.

So what is the 3.8's replacement?

2008 GM 3.6-Liter VVT Engine With Direct Injection

The weakest version of this motor is 255HP. There is a 302HP version of it available on the 09 Cadillacs. And there is TT version of it powering some Concept Cars down in Australia and a single turbo used in some Saabs and Opels over in Europe.

As soon as I figure out what bellhousing will bolt on to the back of it I'm going to start planning on swapping one into my old 455 Regal.
