LC-1 datalogging?

How do I log to my laptop? I have the LC-1 and XD-16 guage and I installed the LMProgrammer and LogWorks. My laptop does not have a DB-9 serial port so I bought a serial port-USB adapter (should this work fine). When I connect to my laptop the guage shows 3 dashes nothing happens when I open LogWorks.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

That should work. I would suspect that adapter. How do you get the USB to show up as the COM1 port?

I got my adapter to work by going into device manager and clicking on the adapter it should show up usb port and changing it there to com1
