Friends GN had the EGR gasket leaking and blowing exhaust on the injector cooking it/boiling the fuel in it and causing that cylinder to go lean. The engine started pushing coolant and we only discovered the egr after pulling the topend. Knock never went off or showed on the FAST system and car only had a small stumble throughout the powerband imo the ally helped the knock severity. Never heard any noticeable tick at idle since the car has roller valvetrain. Car had been just recently rebuilt so he was a bit frustrated. Glad he had Cometics since the factory style would have milkshaked and hurt the bearings, etc. Luckily the deck and heads weren't compromised. Small leak caused a serious set back. Even tho he wasn't using the egr function he retained the stock valve and gasket. l not sure if it loosened or what. A area that many overlook in this tight area.

Yep #1 .....Inj were flow checked and were fine and all bearings looked ok as well. I was astonished that the rod bearing was ok.

Since the head is off.. get the EGR filled.

Another item that's a grenade waiting to happen. IMO if you aren't using the egr in the chip...which most aren't....it should be blocked/filled/etc in such a way to where there isn't exh psi present at the egr gasket.
