If he didn't know it wasn't a GN, run for the hills. Because there's no telling what else he knows nothing about.

I'm not sure what kind of an intercooler or pipe set-up that is. But I'm certain when you see some of ours your not going to want it anymore. It still has a powermaster....so plan on problems soon. I can't read the text for some reason.

The following is copied from another post I wrote a day ago to a new member. It fits your situation exactly.

If I was looking to buy another TR, I would begin by trying to find one that was owned by a person who was "connected" to the TR community. Meaning, he used one of the reputable TR shops for work on his car, or he was a member of this forum, or he hung around other TR guys, or he at least knew a lot of the "players" in the TR world. This gives you a better chance (although no guaranty) of not buying some hack-jobbed Buick that you have to spend time and money sorting out.

It would be nice if you had some input from his Buick mechanic/friends as to the history of the car. Check here on the board and call around to some of the Buick shops/vendors to put the word out that you are in the market.

I run into people at cruises and car shows all the time who own TR's and don't communicate with other owners. It flat-out scares me when they tell me what they have or not have done to their cars. They take advice from Honda, Mustang or small-block guys and are basically driving ticking time-bombs!

Or even better......I run into former TR owners who said that owning a TR is nothing but trouble and they sold their cars because all TR's are pieces of sh*t.
When I ask them who they went to for advise/experience, the answers are always the same. "I'm a mechanic, I don't need advice" or "I went to Joe-Shmoe, he knows his stuff. He build a lot of fast Chevys"

I just shake my head.o_O.

That's great advice there. These engines nor the Cars are that complicated. You just have to have an open mind and be willing to trust the right people and be diligent on what's being done to it. Take everything you know about bearing tolerances and throw that out the window lol I have built a ton of small blocks and a few big blocks but building my 3.8 engine I had about 3 months worth a research just in relearning what I thought I already knew.

You can do alot better than the car you've been looking at. Keep a lookout in the cars for sale section here. Everything from low mile stockers to 9 second racecars. Just need to be patient and willing to go look at something that's not in your back yard.

Why would you trade a beauitful 40,000 dollar car for a 16,000 dollar headache. Dont be in such a hurry, take your time and wait for the correct deal. Nice nova,by the way

I just want to feel that excitement I had when I first bought this car :(

I hope you find and that excitement again and keep it with the next car you own. We all need something like that!

I won't promise you that a Buick will do that for you. However, I can say that my Buick has always done that for me. I know that feeling every time I look at it, get in it, drive it, or just think about it. 20 years later and there is still nothing that comes close. I fell off for 2 years once and it called me to come back.

I started with the biggest piece of sh*t and it didn't matter. I sometimes hated the work and I always hated the expense. But I always loved this car.
