Well we are moving to a new house and we want to change the color of the sofa's,I have never been to fond of the brown/rust color,,I would like to change the color to a Chocolate Brown----Is this possible

It IS possible...a "rule" on dye jobs are you can always go darker, never try going lighter, and you're OK on that one.

Visit the best car or furniture reupholsterer near you, tell them what you're wanting to do, & ask for info on the best leather dyes & any special techniques they'd recommend. They might quote you a price you can't refuse, then you'd have no worries!

Leather IS do-able, but it's got to be done r-i-g-h-t!

Thanks for the info,,how well does it wear,,how long does it last (yrs)...Thanks

The change you're after is a good one to do...same color family, just darker.

If done correctly, and good leather, it should essentially hold the new color practically as long as the original...no reason why not.

If it was a black leather, & you wanted red, I'd caution you about color "lift", where the old color might show in a crease caused later by wear.

Not a likely problem for what you want to do.

Cost? This would basically depend on the square yards of the leather being dyed, but there is a wide range of charges from different shops.

A truly quality job could easily cost around half of what the piece sold new for...and that's why many people sell what they have, and go get one in the color they like.

But...it CAN be done! Price it out to a couple of shops by taking some pics, measuring it, and taking a cushion (if you can) so they can assess the quality of the leather.

Worth checking out...then you can decide what's best.

SEM makes an awesome upholstery dye. They market it for leather car seats so you can change the color on a used leather seat to replace the old one if it is ripped or something. Holds up very good even with drastic color changes. It should work really good on a couch to.
