I need help with my TTA! I was out for a Sunday cruise and it kept on running worse and worse. I bearly made it back home. Anyway, I proceeded to check the coil pack and sure enough, it read 11.5kilohms, 16.5kilohms, and 11.5kilohms across each coil. That seemed a little off, so I replaced the coil pack....no help. I noticed that it was backfiring though the intake when I start to give it any sort of throttle. I also did a spraybottle test on each cylinder. The results were...#1, #3, and #5 were bearly warm to the touch while #2, #4, and #6 were vaporizing the water immediately!!! BTW, I checked all the plugs, and they're fine, but wet on the left side. The car is stock running 16.5psi. Any ideas? Would the module be to blame? Do you think the injector driver on that bank from the computer fried (i.e stuck open)? How likely would it be that I burnt up the exhaust valves? Has anyone ever had this problem? I plan on doing a leak down test tonight.

well u say you have spark and fuel so id say ceck compression on all the cylenders no compression no fire if its poping threw the intake id say maybe a bent exhaust valve check the compression first

Well, the valves are fine! All the cylinders are within 2% of each other. I think the odd # cylinders aren't firing and when the even # cylinders are firing, the waste spark for the odd is making it backfire! Whadaya think? Is this a stretch? I'll try a new module tonight! Any more insights????

Well I finally figured it out!!! FYI: When checking plugs, dont cross any!!! #1 and #3 were crossed, which leaves poor ol' #5...Fuel.......check.....Spark.......check.......Compression.......check.........what the? It would help if the exhaust valve opened!?! Flat cam! Whats a good cam for a stock TTA and a 75 shot of squeeze? Has anyone ever wiped a single lobe? While apart, should I port the heads and intake? Does this help much?

Hi,
Which cylinder wiped the exhaust lobe? #3?
What lifters/cam is in their now?
Later,
James

Exhaust lobe #5 is wiped out. As far as I know, its the stock cam. The car only has 40,000 miles on it!

Hi,
That sucks. I have heard good things about the comp cam 206 and using comps lifters.
Make sure you use good lifters when you change the cam. If I got the comp cam, I would use their lifters or GM lifters.
Please stay away from cheap lifters (aka johnson, sealed power, etc)
Also, be weary, that cam lobe that wiped sent metal thoughout the engine. Do not be surprised if after you get the cam replaced that you spin a rod or main bearing. Might be a good idea to have the bearings replaced. (I know to do it right you would need to turn the crank, pull the engine and you might as well rebuild it)
You never know, it might last 40-50K miles if you just replace the cam, but I wouldn't count on it.
Hate to sound negative, just trying to help.

James

Also don't forget, if you change the cam, the valve springs won't hold up to a more aggressive lift and you will float the valves before you ever see any more power from the cam.

I would pull the rod and main caps and plastigauge the bearings. If there is no scoring of the crank, you should be able to get away with just bearings and not have to have the crank turned.

Oil pump may have gotten filings in it.Cut open your oil filter and see how much debris is in it,One cam lobe depending on how long it was run may not of cuased too much damage.

I would take the oil pan down and cleanout debris.Pull a couple rod caps off and look for scoring. This will give you the answers.

Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions! Hopefully I'll be abe to fix her without too many headaches. I was looking at the ATR roller setup!!! Anybody running a roller? Whadda ya think!?!
