They had an estate auction just west of Indy a few days ago and they auctioned off a 1968 mustang cobra gt 500 king of the road with 9,000 miles on it. A co-worker was at the auction and it was over 150,000 in about 4 bids. Jay Leno ended up getting it for a measly $230,000! Man I wish I could afford cars like that guy.

I know where one is sitting in a heated & cooled garage with the original tires still on the thing.... That's a lot of coin..

ya 9000 miles an then they disconnected the speedo.. :rolleyes:Car needs work and a lot of the original parts . ok Scott what do ya have in hiding ??? I have one thats been in hiding since 1975 in a barn. 23,500 miles from what I remember.

Maybe I'll never understand but why have cars like that if you're not going to drive them?

well the problem now is you have some cars that are worth a lot of $$$ .. Say $500K ++++.. Ya really couldn't take a chance driving it could ya ?? $200k ya.. insure it an have some fun drivin it. Big $$$ cars I wouldn't dare. Would you ??

I would. But I'd have a setup where if I crashed it, I made sure it exploded, so I'd be one dead m-f'ker and not see the destroyed car that was my handiwork. I'd go out with a big bang. Probably have fireworks n' **** too. It'd be epic.

Nah ..it could be 18 year old girl (as for proof of age) driving along an not paying attention to the car an hits it.. Of course your not hurt an the car could be fixed. Then she slips you her phone # ...well you see where this is goin:biggrin:

I would drive it. I could never own a car and only put 9K on it. Of course being that my GN is not a DD anymore it would take 6-9 years to drive 9K miles. But still drive it I would.

ahhhhh the old mileage tricks. Don't have all the warranty work thats ever been done to the car in print. That 9000 mile claim can bite ya in the butt :p Funny how things like this are really easily found. The Shelby (SAAC) guys keep a eye out for anything and everything with their cars. The history they have available is unreal ! Hell I just got a 289/427 Cobra Registry book. Damm thing is 4"s thick !!

That usually happens when I buy yogurt at the store...so weird :D

From what the news had reported Leno had made numerous offers to buy this car over the years. After hearing and reading the story behind this car it was a true mileage car. The owner had also kept the original parts that were removed for modding purposes. Now on the down side of all this is since the car is so rare many people remember seeing the car at Lucas oil raceway park(the old Indianapolis Raceway park). So 9,000 miles it a bunch of passes down the drag strip. The car also had a speeding ticket from the old man that owned it. After he passed away his wife left it in the garage. Sound so cliche for a "barn find"! That is what was on tv, in the papers and online about the history.

Supposedly a representative from Ford was there to buy the car but the car went out of their price range. Either Ford motor company didn't want it that bad or it's not true that a rep was there. I just find that rumor hard to be true.

Saw a guy driving a '68 KR convert on the way home from work 2 weeks ago on 360 near DFW. Probably a replica because they only made 318 real ones.

The One day that week I don't drive my buick... Face palm.

it would have been KR my ass. Instead he gets a thumbs up for a Diesel Dodge.
