Howdy,

I know atleast one of ya'll has a LeSabre Turbo Coupe, any idea how much a 77-85 LeSabre Coupe weighs?

Thanks,

I dont own one but according to the Standard Catalog of Buick 1902-2000 here are the following shipping weights for the LeSabreSC and other LeSabre coupe models.
1978 LSC=3559
1978 LeSabre base V-6=3428 V-8=3556
1978 LeSabre LTD V-6=3454 V-8=3582
1979 LSC=3545
1980 LSC=3430
1980 LeSabre base V-6=3320 V-8=3440
1980 LeSabre LTD V-6=3327 V-8=3455

There was a design change for the 1980 and newer coupe. Just like the G-bodies the are a lot of lightweight goodies to hang on the 80 and up models. I used to have a 82 LeSabre wagon. Probaly the neatest and rarest part I had for it was an aluminum hood. Weighed about 28 pounds compared to 72 pounds for the steel part. As far as I can tell only the first batch of cars for the 80 model year built in the fall of 79 got them. My hood came off of LeSabre #400020. That was the 20th car off that line.

That is probably with no fluids. I would have to guess around 4000 to 4100lbs. My Roadmaster weighed 4250 with me in it. The Lesabre has less "stuff" in it, but the sheet metal is thicker. I have a 79 LeSabre with a 301.

Why would a LeSabre have thicker sheetmetal?

What year Roadmaster are you talking about? I can't see a early 80's LeSabre weighing as much as a late 90's Roadmaster. Many LeSabres came with a 2-bbl V6, so they couldn't have weighed that much more than a Regal.

Those B-bodies are tanks compared to the Regal. And you have to remember that at least 500 pounds of a Roadmaster is air bags and electronics that a Reagan era cruiser never had. Pull the dash off of one and you'll see what I mean.

Here's some shipping weights of a few select Regals to give you an idea of how light they really are. Yeah I was surprised too.
78 Regal SC=3153
78 Regal V-6=2992 V-8=3138
79 Century TC=3047
81 Regal coupe V-6=3188 V-8=3303
81 Regal SC=3261
84 Regal T-Type=3249
86 Regal T-Type=3285
87 Regal V-8=3405
96 Roadmaster sedan=4244
96 Roadmaster wagon=4563

The older cars have thicker sheetmetal than the newer cars. Pick up a 79 Lesabre hood and pick up a Roadmaster hood. You can even tell a difference between the 79 Cutlass and a 80's Regal. The "stuff" I as referring to was the extra electronics and air bags of the Roadmasters. The Roadmaster also has SMC bumper backers, and plastic bumpers, while the Lesabre has steel bumper backers and bumpers. I don't see the airbags and electronics weighing an extra 500lbs, I doubt it is 200lbs. Airbags aren't that heavy, and I have never seen a 450lbs wiring harness.
According to the shipping weights, the Roadmaster is on the heavy side. My Roadmaster weighed 4250 with me in it, so 4065 without. My T weighed 3650 with me in it, so 3465 without. This was the same scale, the same day. So there is a 600lbs difference with real cars, and a 1000lbs difference according to the book.

On paper the weight of the LeSabre doesn't look too bad actually. I wonder how much it weighs in reality like forcefed noted.

These are shipping weights. Probaly the stripped down lightest examples available. No full fuel tanks.Maybe no AC and other heavy options? AC was an option on the pre-85 B-Body. Standard from 86 on. Just what the trucking company would use for DOT regulations. Look under those urethene fascias of the Roadmasters and tell me those STEEL reinforcements don't weigh the same as a chrome bumper. I've got a hood waiting to go on mine and it weighs every bit as much as the older part. The gauge of the sheet metal is the same if you ask me. Yes I've had both dashes apart(82 LeSabre wagon vs 95 RM wagon) and yes air bags and processors and all of the wiring is the 500 pound difference. Tons of extra body sound insulation too. Bigger(i.e. heavy) braking systems too.(standard ABS=more weight). I'll try and dig up a big build sheet for a 80-85 LeSabre the next time I see one in the boneyard. The shipping weight should be on it. I would think you could build one and it would come close to one of my Riviera T-Types. The lightest one I had tipped the scales with me sitting in it and about 10 gals of gas at 3800 pounds. I had an astroroof that was 3925. The wheelbase is 114" and the LSC is 116" so they are comparable in overall size anyway.
