Really nice looking place. That is really slick the way you have the garage set up with the doors on both sides.

If you don't mind me asking, was the connection to the house and the garage made later, or was the house/garage all built as one?

Very nice.

We bought the place around xmas, and it only had a 2 car garage, thats the long part in between the garage and the house. We had the old garage turned into a game room/computer room that has our air hockey foosball darts, weights, video games and computer junk in it. Then we had the new garage built on and used the old garage door for the back, it was blended nicely eh? Theres enough room above the new garage for a 20x20 room later! And to the guy with the leaky car comment, yeah we have one under all the cars except my moms camaro, oddly enough its the only one that doesnt need it! To the guy that said itd be worth 500k where you live, you arent too far off! ok, well maybe like 150k...
all that room and its still rare to see 5 cars in it...

P.S. I know my Website sucks!;)

I outgrew my crib in 68. Do you mean house? LOL!

I live in a house on stilts. My garage has 3 peros parked in it.

If I want to get somewhere quick, I hop in the airboat!

I also have a fenced in gator farm.

Or at least that is how people think we live in Louisiana. LOL:cool:

you guys have some nice pads... Out here in CA you are lucky to get a 2 bedroom condo for $400K in areas not out in the sticks.

'71Buicks house would sell for probably $1Million around here in NorCal with 1/3 acre. Getting a house with property is getting rare unless you have some big $$$.

I need to buy a house... plan on buying one with my roommate since neither of us can afford one alone. I'm guessing I'll have to drop an easy $500K for a 3 bedroom fixer upper with 2 car garage. 5 years ago they were selling in the low $300K range. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

Here is a some pics of the house i got done building a few months ago.We did all the contracting ourself---it was a huge undertaking--and i am really proud of my wife and i for doing this project. The garage pics are a bit deceiving---it is a 26x50 attached that currently has 5 cars in it!!!!

Pics were taken right after we moved in--so no yard or anything cleaned up yet in the pics.
P.S.--the other pics are of the microwave----how many other people can say they have boost on their microwave????
Geoff:D   :)

Wow, now that's nice. My wife wanted to build our own too but I don't think she has any idea the amount of work needed for such a project.

this was taken just after the house was built about 2 1/2 years ago, sorry the pic. is small

I think you are right.I worked 50-55 hrs./week- at work-and spent 20-30 hours a week on this house. It CONSUMED 8 months of my life.I know what i saved by doing this-----Probably in the neighborhood of 40-50K-----was it worth it---NO!!!!!!!!!!!---i now know what a General Contractor gets paid for.On a custom home like this----a GC will earn his money. It's done now--and i have learned ALOT---this is not for the Begnr's.

Geoff,

I said exactly the same thing for about a yr after I built this one. I was the GC on it. Then (just like everyone told me), I got over it and started thinking about all the things I'd do better and different "next time". I haven't done it yet but as soon as mine sells, I'll be cranking it up again. To me, it was worth the hassle especially since the "sweat equity" and normal appreciation have made the house worth over 70% more than what I paid for it 6 yrs ago.

I'm not sure what the official "house" vs. "mansion" threshold is, but I think you're there......very nice.

Thanks for the complement. It's our dream home, been in it for 7 yrs..has a 2 acre lake in back. 2 stair cases, one curved.. 2 wet bars, sunken living room, garages have a car lift in it. Downside is the taxes are killer.but we love it just the same!

Moved here 5 years ago from the Toronto . it's in a small village about 50 mins outside Toronto . Great place for kids and families .area is really growing and house prices are going thru the roof . time to sell and go further north . :) .
