I know that there are a few advertisers for transmission services/parts. Three years ago I ordered a rebuild kit from Level10, and had them rebuild the TC (a D5). I installed the kit myself (was my first time! boy did I learn a lot!) This was for my 84GN.

Now my Dad's 87 needs a rebuild (slipping) My question is, who else sells kits, and how are they comparable to L10's kit?

P.S. He's ordereing it this afternoon, so quick feedback is appreciated.

trans kit

Hi There!
I also recently rebuilt my trans and you are correct in saying that it is a learning "experience"! I have seen posts asking the same question and Bruce indicated he could set the person up with what ever he wanted. I think buying components separately is better anyway so you can specify excactly what you want as far as blue clutches, band type etc. I'm sure any of the gurus here can help you! Seeing as you are so close to where I live, if you need to borrow a low/reverse removal tool or need parts ( i bought a spare trans) or anything to help out, just ask!

Let me know..

If I can help. Buy only the ORIGINAL "PTS" stuff. Level 10 is the guy using and copying our name!:(

I do have a question: I don't know if my dad's has ever been overhauled before. How can I tell if it has a hardened drum or not?

Thanks for the offer for the tool. I may take you up on it! It took me a full day of head scratching and brute force to get that low/reverse drum out on my 84. I didn't have any special tools except for dial indicators. A few others I made as needed. Mine failed with the input shaft breaking (I think that what it was called. shaft on a large drum? been a while!).
