licensed and insured?

My parents are looking to have new fence installed. The guy says he is licensed and insured, but doesn't have any numbers on his biz card, quotes or website. Isn't there a way to check this thru government before I give the guy okay to start the job? Are we being a little too anal about this? Thanks for any advice.

You should be able to check his license on-line through the Secretary of State's web-site. The only way to check his insurancre that I know of is for him to provide a copy of his liability insurance policy.
