Lifters not centered with cam lobes?

is this normal?

The cam is pushed in as much as possible. From what I can see, the flat part of the lifters sits offset to the cam lobe.

they just spin on the edge, i think #3 is the only one that is actually centered-

Providing you have a flat tappet cam That is right. The cam lobes must be off center of the lifter bores to make the lifter spin in its bore. If you look at #3 exhaust lobe it will be usually centered over the lifter bore. Cam manufacturer have to put a reverse lobe taper on that lobe to make the lifter spin. If you ever have your valve covers off and watch the pushrods #3 exhaust will rotate in the opposite direction than the rest of them.
