ok, so i guess i dont get this stuff, but i'm in need of a scan tool for my buick, i was reading info on all these tools, they sound very similar. which would be the best choice for the long run? tanslator pro sounds like it is all u need but? help would be appreciated here. please,m any input would be appreciated

I am not sure what the maft pro does. But if you want just a data logger, I would get the power logger with the LC-1 wideband. I have had all of the scantools for the Buicks and this one is the best IMO.

LM-1 is a wideband O2 sensor setup- best way to tune IMO. It can log, but you need a laptop to download the log files.

Scanmaster is a great all around tool - it's small, easy to use, and a good basic tuning tool.

MAFT Pro is an advanced tuning tool that allows you to fine tune the running parameters of the car, remove the MAF, and much more......hence the "Pro" designation.

Thinking about getting a wideband setup as well. What are the differences between LC-1 and LM-1? Doesn't F.A.S.T. make one as well? What are opinions on the different brands and models available?

Don't mean to hijack, just interested as well.

LC1 is designed to be hard mounted to the car, and the LM1 is designed to be portable. I know I can datalog with the LM1, and using the Auxbox, I can have a number of sensors feed into the LM1 for later download to a PC.

I know PLX, aPexi, and some others make WB systems.

I have read a little about them. I guess my main question would be, What would you need to get a wideband system and what else to lock onto a preset AF and hold it there? Any preferences out there as far as manufacturers go?

I would like something that is idiot proof. Once it was installed, tuned and set to a desired AF ratio it would hold it. Keep me from messing up the tune. I have read that the XD-16 gauge isn't necessary if running GEN II or MAF T pro??

i was leaning to the maft pro also, do i need to buy a wide band 02 also? u know the $200 bucks u save from buying a 3" or 3 1/2" MAF, u could put that $$ toward a maft pro unit. am i wrong in this theory? any and all input on this topic is helping me decide.

Getting rid of the MAF = getting rid of restrictions in the intake. Adding all the other features (WB tracking, timing control, boost control, datalogging, etc) gives you control and adjustability previously only available in full stand-alone engine management systems, at a fraction of the price.

You don't need to buy a WB02, but you should, as it's a great tuning tool, no matter which way you go.
