I guess I did good by buying as many as I could over the years. Right?
I think I have about 2 left of the 1st release and 4 left of the 3rd release. And 2 GNXs. I know I've built about 4 of them over the years, one of them got a 1st place at one of my contests. It was a replica of RU. It's a good kit for what it is, but it does have it's flaws. I always hoped that Monogram would make a 1/10th scale version of this kit, like they did when they were prototype building the production version of this kit, but it never happened. I think Monogram actually released those prototpye pictures of this kit in either a book or their old website, years ago before Revell bought them out. Just imagine this kit, but in 1/10th scale, flipping huge!
I actually preferred the High Performance Series GNX, as it had the plug wires and the mesh wheels with it. I've been a model geek since I was 7. Competed in contests in my teens. Built kits while in the service. I was in heaven while in Japan, aka "The Motherland of Models". I also competed in many contests while in NW Indiana, Chicago area, Ohio and Michigan regional contests. Winning many plaques and trophies over the years. I wouldn't say I'm a pro, more of an advanced model builder. Pros are the old retired guys who I had to compete against. You might know the type, those who were working on their kits 24/7, 363 days a year. Hard to beat those guys. I mainly do modern military aircraft, modern US Navy ships and just dabble with cars. I will say that because of this, I have acquired way too many models, kinda like guns though. He he. One thing I learned over the years is, if you see it, you better grab it because most model companies discontinue stuff every year. This is a hobby that is slowly dying away if we don't share the knowledge with the youngins. I will say that in all of my hobbies growing up, model building taught me the most. Precision, attention to detail, motor skills, using my brain (especially with kits that were missing the directions) and dexterity. Priceless skills in today's world. It actually led me to learn how to gunsmith all of my own firearms.
Anywho, sorry to ramble, here are all of the Editions of this kit over the years.
1st
2nd
3rd
4th
There may be one other edition missing but finding pics is tough. Same kit though.
Current edition in 2012 catalog as kit # 85-4265
All the GN kits are the same, just different box art and part numbers over the years.
1st GNX High Performance Series
2nd GNX Release with ZR-1
Donk GN
This kit has been very successful for Monogram/Revell over the years.
And for those of you out there that might have these kits and store them outside, please know that with heat and humidity, the decals will be ruined. It's always best to store them inside in a climate controlled environment. Outside and in storage kills plastic model kits. And to all of those parents out there who build, teach your kids.
Thanks for sharing and sorry this was so long.
