Im wondering for those in the southeast Wisconsin area of whom you take your cars into for 2004r work. Most places believe they are crap it seems, so Id like one thats familiar and knows them inside and out. Please let me know, Im just planning on having my ProBuilt shift kit installed and a TCC solenoid replaced(with a 700r4 peice recommended by Bruce Toelle). I trust a few TR owners around here know of a couple :D. Thanks!

Didnt I tak to you?

Benzinger right? Hell, ship it out here. Or call Vince Janis in Akron. Either way you win. Freight is not that bad when you consider the nightmares you have heard.

Gimme call when you can and if not we will locate one through our netwerk.

Baumgart is the name ;)

Yes, I talked to you Bruce and ordered the 700-r4 TCC solenoid and 4th gear switch from ya. I talked to Mike Kurtz as well around that same time, he and another person recommended the Pro Built *green box* shift kit, says Gil Younger on the box. I want both of those things installed, plus my 3-4 valve checked of course which is probably stuck(3rd and 4th drive the same).

I made an appointment for last Friday to a local reputable tranny shop and they looked over the instructions, and said that it would take them a long time, cant gaurantee anything with the 700 solenoid, etc, etc...and mentioned something about 200-4r's not being that good. At that point I made up my mind to get as far away from them as I could. They said to call back and make an appointment for Monday, he would check into finding out more info. on other kits....needless to say I wouldnt ever bring a car of mine there again, esp. for a 2004r tranny. Thats why I posted here and 2 other places asking peoples opinions....all 4 who replied said Jimmy's. :)

Jimmy's in Mundelien IL is where I probably will take it. 4 different people have told me about it, and 2 of them are here in WI....apparently no shop in WI knows a thing about these trannys. Jimmys is about 1-1.5 hours from me at most....

Sorry Bruce, but he just wanted to take the car in for a shift kit and solenoid he already has put in. If he was looking to send the tranny in I certainly would have directed him to PTS of Sac. CA. I'm assuming Jimmy can and would install those parts for him

We are trying to help him , remember

Hey man, The object here is to get HIM handled and for him to get what he wants. I KNOW I have sold to people up in WI just cant think of them from here. I would need to be at work at that computer. Thats why I said call. If I can access that maybe he would find someone closer that is capable. Last resort would be to me, very last resort. I know of a guy named Bowler near you too but again at work I have the number. This Bowler guy has bought quite abit and in talking to them , they seemed very respectable. I remember him saying they were near Jimmys too. Anyway, if I can give you some more leads , great, if not, well good luck. :)

I took it to Jimmys and just got back. We went for a test drive right away and he noticed how 4th gear is gone, and 2nd is sloppy. Dropped the pan and part of a clutch was on the magnet and some metal shavings....:o. Sooo, the trans needs a going through. Bad news, but the good news is the rebuild cost will be $600-700 only, which from what Im used to hearing on 200-4r's, is cheap. Its a minor performance enhancing rebuild too, not just back to stock. All I need, plan for a TPI swap and headers/exhaust next year which will give me 200hp/300ftlbs roughly, for a spring-fall daily driver(again this is my LS). I definately trust him after hearing recommendations from a few people and in talking to him, doesnt treat you like an idiot and is honest...so one of these weekends Ill be bringing the LS down and picking it up a week later.

Jimmy's is the ABSOLUTE best for our transmissions. He's honest and his shop is so clean you could eat off the floor! Paul Vilser

How about best in the midwest

Shop was clean....forgot to mention, there was a built 86/87 GN there on the other rack(like its rare to see a GN built up ;) ) and a nice bluish metallic gray T-Type/Turbo T outside, any members here claiming those cars? The GN had the tranny out, bigger rear sway bar, Bilsteins and airbags out back, didnt inspect the front end much, had a IL vanity plate though(forget what it said)....

Hey Bruce.. seems like you and Jimmy need to get together somehow.... whether he sells/installs your stuff etc. I don't know him but his reputation seems to be that of someone that you like to associate PTS with. Chicago area is a big TR market.. :)

This is also a selfish attempt to make sure I am in good shape vendor wise when my tranny finally needs to be gone thru next summer!

It was by NO means a flame, just a joke....

man, I guess I am just whacked...... but.... I LIKE IT!!! LOL

Jimmy and I have conversed but I get the feeling or impression he doesnt believe in what we do. That is ok as that is why there are different color paints. I hold no grudges and would help him out at the drop of a hat if he needed it. :D

you know me,I will help anybody I can.
