+1 for 6152e

I kept my stock converter for a year and dealt with the lag. I just recently got the pats converter and now it spools in seconds. 6131 is good to. One thing I learned is the price of the converter and turbo would have paid for a ball bearing turbo by itself. The turbo is a lot easier to replace than the converter.

yes a stock turbo will get you there,i have a buddy who went 11.80s on pump a few years ago. or you could do what i did back in 2000. t60 turbo, 42lb inj, walbro 340 255lph fuel pump, esp front mount intercooler,3 inch dp,2 and a half inch exhaust, smc alky kit! on drag radials, 93,running 20lbs boostwent 11.60s! on slicks, 93, running 23lbs boost, and launching on 8lbs on footbrake ran a 11.22 @ 118 mph! this combo proved so reliable and fun to drive with very good fuel mileage, that i plan on building a similiar car for the street! let me tell you something about power. everybody wants to go faster, but it has a price$$$$[my current motor $25,000] but as we go faster the reliability goes down,as well as the everyday fun street factor!!!! i plan on going 274 with esp twin turbo setup,93,razors alky driven everyday low 10 streetcar, with great spool up!!!

You can see my combo in my signature. The DBB 6131 spools like a stocker with the stock D5 convertor and unopened motor (except for valve springs). I have only a basic bolt-on combo and am very pleased......it's certainly not the fastest out there but it's knocking off mid-12's on true street tires with a trap speed that puts it potentially well into the 11's with drag radials and an air bag. My tune is somewhat conservative as well so I'm sure low 12's are at hand with some more experience and track/tweaking time as-is.

The limit would be the 93 octane but that would be the limit for any other turbo as well. The DBB 6131 will be about the best of street manners AND performance with the stock convertor (certainly IMO).

dyermullet,gt3255 or used 44/49 and alky=$1080,enough fuel for enough boost and timing to go much faster than mid 12's and no need for an intercooler.you will spend that alone on a dbb6131,and not have your fuel ($400) and intercooler(750+) in check.also on the list regardless of which way you go is an in tank pump, chip, scanmaster, etc.pure pump gas combo's are different and inmo require as good of an intercooler as you can find,a bigger turbo like the 6131 or t63 to put out as cool of a charge as possible, you will need a good converter to run the #'s on the pure pump gas combo as well as bigger injector's.the dump tube i listed in my previous post will take care of the exhaust for about $35-$50 so no need for a downpipe.and yes the stocker will get you there if you want to save more $$.good luck

So be it. Sounds like it works good on your combo. However, there is a HUGE difference in a 9" non lock up converter and a 54# with no fluid 12" stock D5 converter when it comes to trying to spool up a T63E turbo. I myself ran that turbo back in '98 on my old Limited, and I too ran a 9" non lock up converter. Although mine stalled to 3400, it was a beast. So, I have to respectfully disagree with you, that a stock D5 2200 stall 12" converter will spool a T63E decently on a stock motor. Even with an RJC bleeder valve. Not trying to be argumentative or anything, just going off mine and my friends experiences since that turbo first came out back in '94 as well as my PTE experience. I just don't want to see him jump into a significantly larger than stock turbo on his car and be unhappy with it's performance. Being on a budget, that turbo would require alot more supporting mods to work properly, vs the 6131RE. 10.90s is very respectible with your combo and that turbo does like to be run at 23-30psi. So you should have 10.60s in it if all is right. However, you might run into an issue where the charge temps start to get overwhelming past 30psi with the E compressor cover. Alky cures this tho.

I myself am running a 6776RHP on my bone stock motor and need a looser converter. Eventhough I currently have a 10" lock up 3000 stall with an RJC bleeder valve, TT chip and the turbo is dbb. I have a 9" nl 3400 waiting to go in when I R&R my trans.
I still feel that for what he's wanting to do, play on the street on pump gas and run 12's, that the PT6131RE or PT6131E is the way too go. That is, until someone tries PTEs newest technology on a bone stock car and reports their findings or runs some numbers.

Just my O2s worth.

Patrick

AHHHHHH don't listen to THIS guy...what the hell does PATRICK know:tongue:

I say get a stroker motor...that will spool any turbo:D  ;)

Stock turbo and alky. You will love it. end of story. I had a ta49 (on the car when purchased) and hated it, spools very slow especially trying to launch at the track. I went back to the stock turbo and the car is sooooo much more responsive and fun to drive. Good tuning is the key, without a good tune you might as well not drive it. I have a realistic goal of 11s with my current setup in my sig. I haven't been to the track with this setup, darn Pittsburgh winters. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dom

Ahhhh, feel the love...

Thanks Don, we gotta start turning some wrenches on your beast here really soon.

I have a TE 60 that I am contemplating selling. I am upgrading to a 45A which I have already bought... and was going to use the 60 as a backup. Now I am contemplating something bigger for a backup.... so I am toying with the idea of selling it and purchasing a new (used) turbo by or at Bowling Green. It is a little big with a stock converter.... but is definately something you can grow into. Lots of 11 sec TE60 based combos on these threads here. I believe board member Quick6-'n'-KC has a TA61 (similar size turbo) that went 11.19 last year in his limited on pump gas and alky.... on an unopened motor... with the stock D5...... Mine should spool at least as fast as a TA61.... probably a little faster.

It currently has some shaft play (side to side) but no in/out play.... and didn't smoke when I ran it last.

PM me if interested.... price will be reasonable.

My stock turbo is worn 109kmiles(leaks oil past seals) so instead of rebuilding I am looking at upgrading. My current goal is for the car to run in the 12's on 93.
The car is currently stock injector stock converter stock intercooler and downpipe.

The car has a hotwired walbro and TTA regulator (231 or 241 I can't remember which is which).

After I pick out a turbo I will get injectors to match and eventually downpipe, intercooler ect.

What I am looking for is the biggest turbo I can run with the stock converter or the best match for stock heads, cam, converter.

I was considering a TA49 but now I got on here and have found out their is a whole new generation of turbos out there so I need some guidance.

thanks
Scott
A stock Turbo will run mid 12's all day long !

thanks for all the replys guys. My car already has a fuel pump that is hotwired, I have a scan tool and I am very happy with my turbotweak chip.

A friend of mine has a TA49 he is making me a deal on so that is the turbo I am going to run. Now I just have to buy some bigger injectors and get a new chip.

Patrick are you still working for Precision? Are they hiring? I am graduating from Purdue this Dec. with an MET degree and will be looking for employment. Also do you know anything about setting up a tour of the facility? I am in the car club at Purdue, PAPA Purdue Automotive Performance Association and we tried to setup a tour last spring I believe, but were told you were doing renovations at the time. Anyway you could help us get something setup?

My brother Brian worked with Patrick at Precision for a while. Neither of them are still working there. My brother quit to move back to Michigan in November. I was talking to Alex at precision on tuesday and my brothers replacement had just started on Monday. I'm not sure if they are still hiring but I know they were really short handed for a while. You'd probably have to talk to Harry and ask. Good luck!

Not a problem, just doing what I can to help.
I would recommend you go with 60# injectors with that TA-49 tho. You will eventually want more power and 60#ers will work just fine with the right chip on a TA-49, even with a stock turbo. Spend once on injectors and chip and be done with it.
Good to see you posting Eric. Tell Brian next time you see him I said hello and to call me back. I lost his number.

Later.
