First time posting. The Threads and answers here have help me tremendously. Thanks to all who participate and to the ones who started this community.
I do have a question and hope I can get some feed back on it. What is the right turbo for this build. A couple of years ago I had an engine built for my 87 GN by one of the well known engine builders for these cars out of Indiania. The engine originally was built to compete in the TSM class in Bowling Green. However by the time the engine was completed the times were just to fast. So the engine will see more street duty and a trip to the track from time to time. I have been told that the engine build is a stout build and will support 750hp to the fly wheel without issue. Aluminum heads (ported) rollercam, steel crank etc,. I am looking to to purchase a new turbo and considering a 70 series turbo, not sure DBB or JB what size housng etc. When the whick is turned up I would like to be able to turn some low 10's to high 9's. Trans has been completely redone, including Art Carr 9" NL 3800 stall convertor. Would like to hear from the community.

Thanks
Slo-joe

A 70GTQ is a pretty wicked turbo, but I think some of the billet wheel stuff has "raised the bar" so to speak... ;)

I guess it depends on your budget.

I agree with yullose 100%. You already have a converter for that turbo(70GTQ) and you can find them for around $700-$900 in the parts for sale section. The Billet 71 HPQ has been getting the job done on a few 9 second cars but without the "right tune" an 88mm wouldn't ever get you there.

The 70 GTQ was the turbo I first considerd when the build was completed. The only reason I was considering something else, was spool up time.

TSM motors that I know of have a trick to aid in spool up that you won't find in a stock rebuild. Are you tuning it yourself? What are you doing for engine management?

Just make sure he is good with turbo buicks. I know a few guys that are in Indiana who fly with turbo buicks.

Darius owner of DT Auto (Redford Mich) is also a owner of a 87 GN. Who has been in the 9's with a 3.8. He and Dave Bamford have gotten together and tuned some of these cars in are area from time to time.

Am I correct in saying that the 70 GTQ was replaced by the 70 HPQ. And if so what is the diffrence between them? Besides the hp.

Were you going to share this with us guys running a 70GTQ ? ;)

:smile:If you didnt do it already its too late...suck, "squeeze", bang, blow...get where im going with this...;)

It uses a different exhaust wheel. Im not sure about the rest but a search would give you the info. RUQKNUF is our local Turbo Guru

The 6768 would work well on the street but will it still pull @ the top end? I am tring to see how close I can get to having the best of both worlds. Street response and top end on the track.
