My mod's are in my signature. I'll be looking for high 11's, occassionally raced, mostly street driven. The turbo is stock, stock IC with dutt neck. I'd like to upgrade the turbo first, and see where I sit. Also will be doing a port job on the throttle body this winter around the time I purchase the turbo. Can you guys give me some suggestions? Thanks.

GT6131E

3200 stall convertor but will work with a stock D5

And when you go larger injectors, don't forget to change your chip!

and...and...and...

Any other turbos that will do the trick? Who's got the best price on the GT6131E?

And when you do the injectors, chip, convertor, meth kit, dont forget about getting a 3 inch downpipe to get it all downstream.

Full Throttle's prices are hard to beat and they carry precision turbos.
I also vote 6131...

I called FT today and spoke with Mike. He suggested the GT6152, even though I mentioned the 6131. He said it would spool up faster, and would work well with the stock converter. This was after giving him my full combo. He also suggested another chip, other than the Red's I have, since the reds I have work with alcohol injection. He suggested I go with a chip for 93 octaine, then upgrade the exhaust, then the turbo and alcohol injection, and then get the chip re-flashed to handle the alcohol. Said it would be a high 11 combo. Not sure why he suggested different turbo. I'm not familiar with how much experience these guys have with turbo's, so who knows. As for me, I've got the chip on the way, and will follow his suggestion of exhaust next. Thoughts?

turbo

how fast have you been with the car so far just trying to see if you have more left in your setup

Anyone else have any input? Could use some of the awesome knowledge around here to help me out.

Also, previous owner said car ran 12.20 with an alcohol injection kit installed. The pump froze on the kit so it was taken off. I'll be putting on back on as soon as I can get the money together for that. Probably next spring.

At this point I'd like to go:
1. Hooker catback exhaust system.
2. Turbo.
3. Alcohol injection kit.

Will have the car ready for the track next summer. This will be 95% street, 5% strip. Thanks.

Just going by what you have in your sig, I would lean towards the GT6152 that Mike suggested. It will get you into the 11's easily with plenty left over if you decide to add on to the combo later. I would also look at upgrading to the Motron 60# injectors and matching chip. That way you have plenty of fuel cushion....better to go a little over what you need than worry about if you have enough. Chip wise, I would go with a Turbo Tweak.....good piece for the money.

Personally, i think you should do the exhaust first, then the methanol kit, then the turbo.
With the meth kit and the stock turbo, you will make more power with that than going with the upgraded turbo on low boost.

The larger turbo wont make any more power unless you turn it up, plus with the turbo upgrade, you will need a convertor, injectors, new chip and the list goes on.

The car is new to me.

maybe you should play with what you have an learn how to tune with out learning how to tune you could put on all the bolt on parts you want an never get any gains

Have you ran it yet??

I agree....

Have you ran/taken it to the track? Have you worked on any tuning? Or even set a goal w/what you have? Its good to keep upgrades in mind, but doesn't do you any good if you are running 12's now, you slap on the turbo, and bingo........you're still running twelves....... :D Find a baseline where you are at now.......do some research (if you haven't done so already) of where you SHOULD be with your combo.Make some minor upgrades.(chip, downpipe, exhaust are great starts)....but learn the car FIRST. Trust me that turbo upgrade will look much better down the road if you have some prior knowledge of what the car can do with the combo it has now....
Just my o2..

Yep, get your current combo running right before modding further. I'm not convinced that a GT6152 can work with a stock stall D5, maybe Mike thought you were going to restall it. It would be a pig on the street with stock stall.
I've had a variety of turbos from PTE on a trial before, the GT6131E worked well with a 2700 stall convertor, but still took a bit too long to spool up at the track before the lights dropped. I have a 3000 stall now and its perfect for that turbo.
Get the stocker running mid to low 12's consistently then go to a bigger turbo, but don't forget all of the supporting mods first, and learn to use a scan tool and tune, its not all that difficult once you get into it, may be a little intimidating at first. Having an upto date fuel system is paramount for running any amount of boost over stock.

Most guys say 3400 for the 6152. I would also guess since you have a 212 cam, you need a 3000+ stall. I would think the 6152 and a 3400 stall would be a good combo. Plus the other upgrades to match.

But like everyone else said, take the car to the track yourself. Just because the guy said it ran a 12.20 does not mean it will when he sold you the car. Post back after you go to the track. Use at least 100 octane when you go to the track and start off with low boost. That will give you some cushion if something goes wrong.

What would be bad about going with a TE-45a on his car? Seems like an all around kick ass street/strip turbo.
