This is new to me and I have found a ton of information on this board. I had a Turbocharged 99 GT that ran mid 11s @ 120+ on pump gas and 10s with C-16. I sold it to get a house and have my first child early this year.

Anyway, I have wanted a GN for many years and received the green light from the wife to get one. I'm not 100% sure how much to pay for them which obviously varies with condition and miles. There is a nice GN, IMO, on Ebay with 49-50K miles and nearly bone stock. The only problem is it's about 10 hours away, but I would be willing to fly and then drive it back for the right price. It is currently $13,100. I would like to get it, but I'm not 100% sure what should be the max amount I should bid. Economics isn't a problem, but I don't want to pay too much for one.

I look forward to joining the family and making my GN just a little faster than stock.

Marc,
if you say it is stock that is far too much for a GN with hose miles. That should be more in the $10K range. I don't think it is worth the flight.

You would find a better deal on this board than on ebay. You should have no problem finding one here that is slightly modified for that price with the same or lower miles, just be patient.

BE PATIENT!!!

It's so easy to rush into the first 'good deal' that you come across- I had the unexpected experience of purchasing another GN after my last one got totalled. Here's the major point that I thought long and hard about:

With these cars getting along in years, there are bound to be age and mileage related problems to deal with, as well as the occasional knucklehead ("Yeah, I put 5 grand into the motor, fully built by _________, all the good stuff, yada, yada, yada, BUT I NEVER RACED IT!)....

The questions:

Do you want to have a possible project, or do you want to get a car that has had most of the major rework already done? If reworked, WHO did the work, and is there tangible proof of the work being done? Is the shop reputable, and willing to back their work?

There are too many people who desire these cars, who don't know enough about them, and end up getting ripped by malicious jackoffs.

When I bought my car, I had several lengthy conversations with the owner- during the conversations, he gave me the names and numbers of shops that had redone the car. He also name dropped (other shops and individuals he had dealt with) and I looked up the shops, and asked the techs/mechanics about the car WITHOUT letting them know that I was interested in buying the car. Made all the difference in the world.
