Ok guys, Before you start flaming me up over my username, I am an avid fan of multiple cars, preference is Nissan but I am now in the game to get a Regal, and boost it up. The Fiance is going to be getting a new car and buying two new cars is out of the question, so I have decided that since I do not get to get my Charger RT, I will be buying and building up a Regal. I currently have a 1990 Nissan 300ZX that I have built up and converted from Automatic to 5spd, and have a 1977 Datsun 280Z, custom turbo build with custom turbo downpipe, custom exhaust manifold, and custom intake manifold with a custom fuel rail, so I am definitely not afraid of work. I have been studying for several hours and cannot find any answers to some of my questions, is there a FAQ on here that I am just not seeing? Im trying to discover if all the 3.8 blocks are the same in the 74-87? Compression ratios on turbo engines to NA, are the heads the exact same? These questions I just cannot seem to find by google searching. I have also noticed that no where sells crate 3.8 turbos. So any help to get my ball rolling would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the dark side.....if you have been reading and using the search function you are already ahead of most newer members. O and it is a whole lot easier to start with a turbo regal then to try to Frankenstein one together. Good luck

Well Frankenstein is kind of my special, My Nissan has Ford Parts on it, My Datsun is for sure a Frankenstein build. I dont mind the work. I have never seen a turbo regal around here in Knoxville. So buying a Regal is my main option. Where would I go to find out if the blocks are the same in all 3.8's? Also the casting number on the heads of the turbo/GN models. If the parts are identical minus the intake manifold and TB and fuel injection, I will run a straight standalone EMS, with Fuel, Spark and Boost controller. Custom gauges and get a beefy tranny. Just looking for information concerning the engines alone, CR's, Factory injector sizes etc..

Been poking around, and not having to much luck.

We4Mateo - SO the N/A block can just me worked a bit to run the turbo set-up? Meaning the block internally minus that is all the same? Same piston size, rods, crank, and block its just needed to make the turbo have a return line to the oil pan?

Yes, a N/A block will work. It just needs a hole for the turbo oil to drain back into the block. Or, you can just run it down to the oil pan. Rotating assembly is different on a turbo engine, than a N/A. Do your home work before you buy. Don't think that you'll be saving any money by starting out cheap and piecing a car together. If you want a fixer-upper, Find a car that someone dumped lots of good parts at, then hurt the motor and needs to sell it.

Welcome to the site.:)

Sounds good, and I really appreciate all the advice you guys are fantastic! I Really do want to get ahold of a turbo Regal, but like I said, Never seen one here in Knox. I am curious, for us Nissan/Datsun guys we have charts that literally compare engines piece for piece. CR's, Bores, Strokes, etc. So whats the differences from a turbo regal to a GN? Badges? Rear End? Im so confused, I feel like there isnt enough details of the engines, I could very well be wrong. Not trying to pester guys, just trying to get a solid goal ahead of me.

Been digging and digging this is what I have come up with....

Bore 96.52mm/3.8in
Stroke 86.36mm/3.4in
CR 8:1
2 Valves Per Cylinder

This goes for the Regal, as well as the Grand National..

Only differences is EFI and manifolds on GN....

Am I wrong?
