GM very quick to defend themselves by saying that the Blue Devil Corvette will reclaim the top performance throne from the SRT-10 Viper.

I guess the guys at Corvette had enough with one car being faster than theirs back in the 80s. :tongue:

It does my heart good though, I am Chevy fan after my Buick alliance. So to see the viper get smacked around is great IMO:biggrin:

The new ZO6 would do more than 'smack around' a viper... It'd annilhate it. I mean really...10.8 for a stock Z? And that was with a 300 rpm miss-shift. Not that it really matters that much but, still. Imagine what just a few mods would do to that car. Thats just nuts.

The C6 Z06 comparison thus far have been with the current Viper, not the '08 model with 600+hp I believe. GM has been talking about a 427 ci LS7 motor with a supercharger for almost a year now producing over 650hp.

this is just getting insane. i am all for having a faster car than the next guy, but 500hp mustangs, vettes running 10's right off the show room floor, who knows what this viper is going to do. this is getting a little out of control. i'd like to know how many of these cars end up totaled before they hit 5,000 miles.

it doesn't matter too much to me, i'll never be able to afford one, and if i am i surely won't be willing to pay the sticker price.

and whats this about maybe calling it an "SS" there is no SS corvette. you can't break tradition and do that. its bad enough the ditched the hide away headlights, although it is growing on me.

i guess having a ferrari isn't such a big deal any more... (thats not a bad thing)

in my opinion, nothing will be able to match the 06 ZO6. that car is just rediculous. this is getting crazy though.
But i dont think those cars are getting wrecked though. too expensive.
the corvettes, Z06's, vipers, srt8's, mustangs... theyre gettin soo dam fast, i dont know what to do. all those import exotics are having a harder and harder time on our city streets nowadays.... is this the most appropriate time to be in a horsepower war though?

The SS tag is supposed to be a tribute to the 1957 Corvette SS(XP-64) that ran at Sebring and a few other races...Not a street car, strictly race, but there was an SS

Actually the Corvette was the first Chevy to wear the SS designation. Here is a pic of it from 1957. A hand built factory racer. I guess you could call it a C1R. Hmm kind of looks like SpeedRacer stole some styling ques from it. The last I had heard it was going to be called the Stingray. Keeping with Chevrolets "heritage" theme it was deemed that Stingray was more recognizable then "SS".

And I think this year at the Detroit Auto Show DCX had a concept Viper with a V-8. I've been reading ever since those crazy Germans took the helm that they want to stuff a "proper" engine under the hood. I guess a V-10 goes against all logic when you're talking about balance and other BS like that.

Oh yes he would.
That new version of the ZL1 (in a way) is just absolutely terrorizing. it makes me get nervous. i bet alot of engineers at ferrari, porsche and lamborghini got fired after their 'wait till you see my new creation. it will be absolutely unbeatable....' then the ZO6 got released, and made em all look bad lol. "VHAT?? Vhat is zis american V8?! Zis car beats ours by 18 car lengths??!! You are all fired!! You hear me?!!! FIRED!!!!"

Though I have to admit, that german engineers are no joke. They are actually DAM smart. Just a quick look at their history would instantly reveal that to just about anyone with a pulse and 5 or more braincells... And maybe a new engine is in order for the viper lol. Cuz their current 10 cylinders still cant compete with chevrolets 8 lol.
Though keep in mind, that overall rwhp means absolutely NOTHING without balance (we all know that better than anyone). balance between the front and rear of the cars centreline, traction, tires, suspension, overall weight, and torque to weight distribution.
Look at the viper just for example. It has more hp i think than the vette, but the vette happens to get downrange a little quicker, cuz of its outstanding balance overall. Corvette has always has good balances. Great out of the hole, great top end, great handling/cornering, great breaking, and a decent pricetag. no other car around can match that. sure there are cars that beat it in handling, but the vette would just whoop it on quarter mile strip. there are cars that can whoop the vette on the strip, but they cost 160,000 dollars too.
Corvette just has it down to a science, and will always be on top. And i dont even really fancy corvettes either. The viper can pour on all the horsepower it wants, but until it gets its overall harmony down, it will always take a backseat to corvette. and you can take that to the bank.
