mystery finally solved everytime i was doing an oil change i would drain out maybe 2 quarts if that and i couldn't figure out y or where it was leakin from i had replace the oil pan gasket and wasnt from there until today i fired up my ride and white smoke was coming fromunderneath so i look under the car and it was oil drippin and not alot of it but it drips by the drop once in awhile and so i get up and look to see where it was coming from and out of the corner of my eye i seen one drop fall down from right in between the turbo and the compressor after like 10 minutes of waitin for the drop its comin from under neath there like a bolt there and i can see a bit of oil arund it so i know its leakin from there too be exact u know where our oil turbo line is at? well its on the oposite side underneath where there is one bolt so my question is wat do i do ? how bad is this problem meaning is my turbo messed up or can i just tighten that bolt thanx for any help

Never heard of oil leaking from a bolt on the turbo.

Try a wrench on it - if its loose tighten it. If its leaking from this loc'n then its likely you are about to lose this bolt 'cause its so loose.

Make sure you are not losng it from the oil feed line and its seeping underneath. Usually guys lose oil from inside the turbo itself - after the seals are toast.

Are you talking about where the oil drain pipe is? The oil feed line is on top of the turbo. If it is the oil drain pipe then you may need a new gasket for the oil drain pipe or just tighten the two bolts holding it on.

damn im having a hard timr being able to get the wrench in there at the angle it is ?wats the best way to tighten the bolt closest to the intake manifold?

If your talking about the oil drain pipe, I've only worked on it with the turbo off the car. Only thing that comes to mind is possible a swivel headed ratcheting wrench (Always wanted to get one of those sets), but they're aboutn $50 to $60 for a set and haven't found the right excuse to get one yet.

The only other option is to loosen the mounts for the turbo and lift the turbo off the intake just enough to the the wrench in. If your going to be working on a Hot Air, I think it's a rite of passage to at least remove the turbo and put it back on. The biggest trick is getting that oil drain pipe back into it's drain oil in the intake manifold.

Essinger is correct. I would buy a new stock oil drain tube as well as the rubber gromlet into the intake if you are going to remove or loosen the turbo. I had the same problem as well (the problem was caused by other issues- Bad Poston uppipe). My mechanic used a special dye in the oil and after 100 miles under floressent light(sp) could see where the leak is exactly. I would try this first. In my case the turbo oil leak went either into the turbo intake or exhaust and the test didn't work. But I was losing oil at the rate of 1 qt per 100 miles. This test should tell you if the leak is external or a bad turbo. Thanks- Brad

the oild drain tube is the tube that runs down under the turbo wit accordian wrinkles on it that runs down next to the tranny dipstick correct?if thats it well u know how that tube connects to the turbo on the bottom wit 2 bolts? well the bolt closest to the front of the car is the only one that leaks just abit too i did kinda notice though that the seal or gasket thats there is kinda more to one side than the other could that be the cause that maybe its not lined up right ? maybe a dumb question but im just learnin about this thanx again

Bolt on oil drain tube

My solution to the bolt nearest the intake on the oil drain tube is. I took a cheap thirteen millimeter wrench and sawed the boxed end off about one and one half inches long. Then welded a cheap quarter inch drive socket on the end of the wrench. With a long extension it's possible to get at the botton bolt. I realize everyone else seems to put the tube on the turbo first but try as I might I can't seem to get the tube through the gromet. Just My fix. Bernie Steffen zstef@mchsi.com

damn bernie that is the best solution i think anyone could of gave me lol witout havin to take out the turbo very smart creative thinkin i will do that ill waste a few bucks and cut and weld a tool together rather than mess with the turbo by movin it thanx for the idea and hopefully that solves my problem if not well then i will have to get dirty and i do have agood tips and advice from everyone here to fix it if it continues

alright guys i ordered the turbo oil drain pipe and the oil drain pipe gasket as well as the turbo oil drain grommet im gonna replace all these and see it that stops the oil leak i gotta start somehwere so thats where i will start now i need help and advice on a step by step on removing the turbo and replacing that oil drain pipe where do i start first ? and the easiest wat possible and help or advice will help me out alot thanx or if there is a link showing me step by step on doing this job let me now about it thanx

Take a look at the Turbo Mouting Diagram at the top of this forum under Basic Hotair Info!

You'll need to loosen the two nuts labeled 8 and the one labeled 3 in that diagram. That holds the turbo in place. It's not necessary to completely remove the nuts, just loosen them a lot.

You'll need to unbolt the throttle body from the turbo intake which is two nuts that completely come off.

Also remove the bolts that hold the up and down pipes to the exhaust side of the turbo. You may need to loosen the bolts that are further down the up pipe to help clear the up pipe from the turbo.

I don't know that the order of these really matter since they all have to be done to remove the turbo.

Don't have any pictures, but may someone else can send them. I'm going to need to remove my turbo sometime to install an alky nozzle in the adapter, but it will not be for atleast a couple of weeks. I could take pictures then, but that may be to slow for your need right now.

When remounting the turbo, putting the drain pipe back in and aligning the turbo adapter is a real pain, but take your time and it'll work (with a lot of cussing). A rubber head mallet will help too whe tapping it back into place.

Hope this helps
