I had hoped this day would never come. I had to put down my best friend for the last 13 years. Ruka was my Rat Terrier who was with me thru the best and worst of times. She traveled up and down the East coast with me, was always a comforting sight when I was feeling down or angry, just an unassuming friend who always wanted to be there for me. She wasn't so nice to my wife or kids, she was very possesive of me. I will never forget the day I picked her up in Dec 1997 or the day I let her go(Easter). She was surrounded by the ones that loved her on her way past this life. Godspeed Ruka, I love you.

I feel your pain:( I lost my Lab two year ago got a golden ret but to this day still miss my babby:(..

Those of us that love our animals hope that the day never comes.I've had 5 that I had to put down. Its never easy & we cry hard.My heart goes out to you because I know how it feels to lose a best friend.

Sorry to hear. I was never a big fan of rat terriers until we got one a short few years back. Now I can't imagine being without her.

Sorry to hear this AJ  we lost 2 dogs here in the last 6 months .. both were 13 years old..

Sorry Dude. I had to put put down my 11yr old Shepherd this past fall. It's tough.

Putting down your dog is very tough. I was raking my yard Saturday and cleaned up Pepper's gravesite. We had put her down last July. I was sad all day after thinking of her. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a Dog is liek losing a vey close family memeber..sometimes worse! We lost our Rott Greta several years back and its still heart wrenching to think about. Our current Rott elsa is our daughter and I dread the day. Dogs are Great companions!!!!

It's hard to put them down, think of the joy and friendship she gave you and you provided her throughout her life. We had to put down our standard poodle at 9 years due to complications back 2 years ago then my little chow/spitz mix I had for over 13 years just a few months later...the little chow was devistated that Roxy the poodle never came back home and was depressed the last few months and she went down hill fast.
My wife didn't want another dog after that...told her to think of all the joy we gave to those dogs and what they gave back...yeah its hard to do the day it comes, but the years of happiness are well worth it... We now have a Goldendoodle that we've had for the past year, but still miss Roxy and Girlfriend.

Sorry to hear that AJ, lost two long time pets last year, 14 year old Ragdoll cat Destiny and Gizmo our chinchilla who was close to 18 or so. My son never saw me cry before, will never forget her eyes after the vet gave her the shot to put her down.

It will get easier but takes time. Think the best thing is to get another pet after a few weeks. Our house seemed real empty without one.

Had my engraver make up some really cool pet memorials for our two pets and we have been talking about maybe coming out with a line of products.

Ruka

Thanks,Guys. Yesterday when I came home from work I sat in my driveway for 10 minutes balling my eyes out because I knew Ruka wouldn't be waiting for me at the door. Trying to keep busy doing things around the house but that dog was always 3 feet away from me just keeping me company. I know in a few weeks I will start going to the animal rescue shelters with my family to find another dog and give it a happy home. Oh and by the way Mark,I also have 2 beige Chinchillas, Jesus and El Diablo. They are about 9 years old, brothers bought from a breeder in Enfield. We have had a White one(Niko)2 grey ones,Angel and Fillipe,a black velvet(Lolita)and 2 baby greys we sold to a friend. They are very entertaining to say the least. Ruka loved playing with them.:D

i feel your pain we put our mastiff down 8 wks ago he was just under 8 years old, but what a dog. i told the wife never again ,but a wk later we brought home tick a 8 wk 23 lbs. puppy he's now 16 wks and just over 60 lbs. it's been a crazy 8 wks. but he sure has helped ease the pain.

Sorry about your loss. Dogs are better than most people.

X100.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. I had to put down my Rott- Sasha and My Dobie- Suzie (both rescues) a few years ago. The Rott had aggressive bone cancer- she was 8 and it was the hardest thing I ever did. The Dobie was around 15 and has severe arthritis and kidney failure almost overnight- It was hard to do but I felt that this was the right thing to do for her, not me.

My remaining dog, the Eurasier, went into a depression- so we went out within a few days and found another rescue Rott, ironically named Tasha. A few months later, rescued a malinois off the street and the rest is history.

I could not imagine my life without my doggie companions.

I hate that they die, but such is life... My take is that if they are in my care, they live a good life and are loved. So, when one dies, we mourn and we remember but, then go and rescue another because it's the right thing to do. And frankly, I like dogs WAY more than I like people... and it's kinda funny, I think they like us too... We have our 3 that live in the house and have a fenced yard. However, all the neighborhood dogs( Two labs, 1 basset, 2 or 3 other assorted mutts) hang out near us because we'll stop and pet them, play with them and yes, even feed them...

Sorry to ramble but my dogs are near and dear and I hate to hear of loss...
Just think about the good life you gave Ruka and the good life and memories she gave you. Go and rescue another and pay it forward...
