lost screw driver while changing coil pack

any one ever drop one during this and not find it?? i looked for an hour and can't find it, it fell i herd it bounce a few times and waiting for the sound of it hitting the ground, it never did. how important is finding it???

Eh... it's not as bad as something falling INSIDE the engine but still a good idea to find it. Have you been able to look from underneath the car, or at least get a strong light to see from up top?

Get a second set of eyes to help you look. Can't remember how many times I've thought something VANISHED, then bring a 2nd person into the garage and they spot it in 10 seconds.

had the wife with me, at least she tried , i had it jacked up pretty high and still saw nothing, then i opened the valve real fast on the floor jack droping the car down real hard a few times i hopes it might some how free it up and let it fall out or at least move so i might see it, nothing...

When I loose something I get out the magnet on a stick and start running it all around where I think the object fell. I once lost a bolt and couldn't find it. After an hour of looking I checked in the hole in the crossmember under the engine with the magnet. There is was.

It's either on top of the trans., or it is wedged between the body and the frame rail. Ask me how I know.

it' was a screw driver with a torq bit fitting.
i'll look again in a few days when i feel better and i did try the magnet thing with no luck.. frame rail will be a good place to start next time....thanks

Sounds familiar. There is a nice swivel head spark plug socket floating around somewhere on top of my Dodge 4.7l pick up. It slipped off the extension, and poof! gone somewhere on top of the intake pan.

Have you checked on top of the trans or sitting on the back of the lower intake manifold (same general area)?

I lost one of the shoulder bolts for the rocker assembly as I was pulling it out. I swear I heard it fall down and hit the exhaust manifold. Turns out it was sitting on the lower portion of the intake manifold towards the back of the engine.

i've lost plenty working on cars, and yes, the c3i or ign, also. the best part is forgetting about it and finding it later when you do some major work. or i'll be going down the road and here what sounds like a bolt that just broke ,pull over and inspect it when i get home and never can find where it might have come from, might have been one of those lost parts. the best find ever for me was 3 - 17mm sockets inside a frame rail on a daytona, don't know why they were there, but it was a black matco, a chrome matco, don't remember the other one. but i give ya a 90% chance of finding it one day.

Losing tools around the engine bay is bad but how about leaving tools on the
front up by the radiator support and then making a run...did this last time out
racing...got to the timing shack and the guy said the starter up at the burnout box had a wrench of mine that flew out onto the track...got back and walked over to the starter...he handed me my 3/8" ratchet...he said at about the 1000 ft mark he saw sparks flying from under my car...I never heard a thing...I've had that wrench for 30 years or more...it's now beat up a little but still works fine...I checked and didn't see any obvious damage on the car...but at 130 MPH whos knows what it could have done...I felt like a total idiot...
