Right now I have the stock MAF with 3" MAF pipe and 9" K&N filter. I'll be getting an LT-1 3.5" MAF, so my question is what else will I need? A 3.5" MAF pipe or no? I've heard people mention I should get a translator or translator +, but what exactly is that?

you need an interface between your ecm and the LS1 maf.....that is what the "translators" are for

9", 12", or 14" K&N with 3.5" or 4.0" neck, LS1 3.5" MAF, 3.5" to 3" reducer hose, 3" solid MAF pipe, 3" hose, and Translator or Translator +. Also recommend an Extender chip to go with it but isn't required.

What exactly is an extender chip and where does it go? I already have the 3" MAF solid pipe, but my 9" K&N doesn't have that big of a neck. Oh man, and it's new too...:( A 14" K&N? Not too big?

an extender chip replaces your pit bull chip. See the ramchargers web site for more information on the translator/translator + and extender chip.

Right now you have a stock car with stock injectors, right? I wouldn't bother with an LS1 MAF right now.

If you are getting one for free, sell it to offset the cost of something you really need like a fuel pump.

If your stock MAF is bad, buy a translator and trade your 3.5" MAF for a 3" MAF + a little money (I'm sure someone will trade you). It will work with your K&N and hoses with minimal mods. You get a MAF system that will last nearly forever for a little nore than cost of a brittle reman.

The extender ship and the translator + are nice to have, but really are necessary at this stage, especially if the injectors are stock.

A 3.5" will not help you at all since you have to choke it to 3" anyways to fit your MAF pipe. An LT1 MAF is simpler to install
