LT1 swap into T-Type

I didn't mention earlier, but I have helped do a 355 small block in an 83 T-type. We used Monte frame mounts and bolted it to the stock 200-4R. Any number of piddling things made it annoying; the wiring harness lengths for the alternator were wrong, the A/C lines had to go -- and if you wanted the A/C to function, custom ones would've had to be made, or you'd need to use Monte brackets and lines. The radiator shroud had to be rigged --less of a problem on an 86 with an electric fan, but now you're minus a functioning ECM and you need to rig a manual or thermo switch.... On and on. And, as I mentioned, the car was a slug. :) The 83 carbed turbo motor was no champ, but I think the 355 was slower.

Now if I am not mistaken ...are not the trannys in the TRs computer controlled....would you need some sort of after market controler for it...

If it were me..I would put the T-Type away and find me a carbed Regal...maybe a non running one and do the swap on that..I picked up a 81 Regal ...with a bad transmission for 500 bucks...

You're ****ing kidding, right?

Buy a $300 car, drive it.

Sell the turbo Regal to someone that knows what to do with it.

"Thanks Thieves"? Who else would steal your car, buddy? Llamas?

Anyways, it's his car, guys. If he wants to run it with a hampster wheel in place of the turbo, thats his business. If he wants to drop in an LT1, that's his business.

Personally, if I was ripping out the LC2, I would go with the LS1.

People in the Buick community never cease to amaze me. Statements like this do more to embarass TR drivers than anything. I say do what you gotta do to get the LC2 back up and running the way you want. The idea for buying a dirt-cheap long block from a junk yard was good, but at least you know where this LT1 has been.

The LT1 will be an easier swap than most are making it out to be.

Go to a junk yard and find an underhood wire harness (that comes from the fuse block) from an earlier carbureted G-Body and swap that into your car. That harness will have the all the leads you need to make the engine run (starter, distributor, etc.)

You won't need any wires from the pass. side harness so you can either neatly tie the EFI harness back or remove it for now.

You will need to wire up a kit for your electric fan (which you can but a cheap kit at most parts stores). You will also need to make a quick kit for your powermaster brakes but that's easy. If you need help with that just email me.

Install some Monte SS mounts (the holes are already in the frame for them).

Drop the engine in and you'll be ready to rock. It'll probably take a weekend to do it all. And if you wanted to get real fancy, you could tap into the trans lock up solenoid with a switch and use a toggle to lock it up (for highways & such).

Yeah, mentioning that kind of swap on these boards goes over like a fart in a space suit. My T Type is rocking and rolling right now but I ever hurt this engine again, I am swapping a turbo (aluminum block) LS1 motor in it. I know I'm going to catch a lot of flack but who cares. I will never pay that kind of money to build a stage motor when I can get two more cylinders for the same price if not cheaper.

I have done several similar swaps so If you have any questions please feel free to email me @ turboburge@aol.com

X2!!!! I love g-bodies period. TR's are fast, some are very fast but for some TR owners the faster they go the farther their head goes up their a$$. Its like sometimes i get the feeling that if I don't have a turbo 6 my cars are worthless. I have friends that make me feel that way. Sure i don't have a low 12 second car, but look in my sig and tell me my cars are junk. Also with SOME TR owners its never about equality, they always have to be better, like the thing with TR vs vette and vipers. They are nice cars and leave it alone. Owning a Buick means acting like you've been there before, GOING FAST with CLASS.

For more info about an LT1 swap into a G-body please go to montecarloss.com and do a search in the message board and you should find all the info you need.

Shane how did you make my statement into a question form, what i was saying is "thank you thieves for stealing my peice of crap mustang because i cashed in on the insurance and bought my gn with the money" i wasnt saying it like i didnt know who did it.

And my first statement was an exadurated overeaction that i thought was what he would hear for some of the people here. That is why i said that i was kidding and i do know how he feels.

How much money are you talking about for the LT1? Have you thought about searching around for a "used" turbo block and you can just drop it in and have your car running again? Wouldn't you be able to get your car running sooner that way? What happened to the previous engine?

Just letting you guys know, that I have decided against the LT1. But if anyone is need of a good LT1 longblock freshly rebuilt will under 500 miles let me know.

GOOD MOVE!!!!!

Welcome back to the club Brother!! Your ghetto pass has been renewed!! hee! hee!

Dude, it is your car do what you want.. you paid for it.. K Chow did the SBC thing.. But the ora of the TB is the v6 turbo which all they came with...So you probably would catch some flack from it.. But hey like I said your car, your $$$$$ do as you please. If people don't like it.. F*@# em. ( no offense to all)..

At least you are not painting it some funky purple/green/puke yellow flip flop paint with dime size metal flake and the 24 spinners... <bling bling>
