Are there any significant advantages of one or the other? I know one is 3" and the other 3.5". I can readily get the 3" LT1 from some local yards for $50 bucks and will not require adapters as the LS1 will. I don't suspect you can outflow the unit as you can a buick MAF. Has anyone switched from an LT1 to LS1 or vice versa and seen any difference? I am just trying to justify the cost between the two. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathyn

i just spoke with a guy from ramchargers, and he informed that the advantage of the LS1 is if you will be going faster than 10.70 - - -for all those interested in the thread.

I have been out of the MAF market for a while now. Do you use the stock form LT or LS 1 MAF with a translator or is there some modification required on the MAF side as well??

I cant remember who it was..I think turbodave..but not sure..said he ran the 3 in. then the LS1 & saw a tenth difference in the two..

I believe the way the MAF issue breaks down is the following...someone correct me if i am wrong please

LT1 MAFs come in two different sizes. The impala SS LT1 MAF is a 3 inch unit. These actually come on a ton of cars so they aren't difficult to get. Most junkyards should probably have one if they carry newer cars.

The LT1 MAF on F-bodies are 3.5" units. Now i haven't heard of too many people using these (i don't know why). It seems most people either use the 3" LT1 or the 3.5" LS1.

The LS1 is 3.5" like previously stated and it comes on the newer vettes and f-bodies and a few other vehicles as well.

I have yet to purchase the translator, but i am under the understanding that the translator will plug right in.(perhaps someone could confirm that)

The 3.5" units will require you to use a reducer to get it to fit you intake pipe.

Has anyone else seen a difference in bolting on an LS1 vs a 3" lt1?

LS1 with screen 747 CFM
LS1 no screeen 800 CFM

LT1 with screen 637 CFM
LT1 no screen 730 CFM

GN with screens 593 CFM
GN no screens 660 CFM

If your worried about the MAF as a restriction then change it to a blow thru. Turbos make better pressure pumps then vacuum pumps.

There is a calibration difference between the two. Experimenting with find which is actually better for your setup.

One option is grinding the tabs off, and running the LS1 sensor in the LT1 housing. But, I'd recommend being able to do your own chip editng if doing that.

Good info, but what about my origional question? Do you make the interface with a Translator for all of the different MAFs (LT1 3 and 3.5 or the LS1 3.5)?

I am heading to the Nationals in BG in a week, a translator was something I was thinking of picking up so I can covert to a more common MAF at my leisure as opposed to waiting for something to break and having to figure it out in a rush.

ok, im kinda lost here.........did sombody say that i can use the lt-1 maf without any translator? i know that the ls1 needed a translator, but i also thought that the lt1 needed one also. can sombody plz state which need the translator and which doesnt?

Yet another slightly different twist on this topic. I just installed my T+ this past weekend. The 6" adapter that went on the stock MAF connector was labeled "LT1" on the package. Can anyone tell me if the LT1 and LS1 MAFs use the same weatherpack connector? Thanks.

They both need the translator, but since the LS1 is 3 1/2 inches it also requires some plumbing changes. I do not believe the 3 inch LT1 needs anything besides the translator.

I have had them both (LT-1 3" and now LS-1 3.5") both using the same translator box. Inside the box you will need to change the settings from 3" to 3.5". So far I like this 3.5" sensor better. I can't put my finger on what it does for me but my throttle response is instant! Also a nice mate to my 3.5" big-mouth and 3.5" turbo inlet bell.

You need a translator if you use anything but the GN MAF.

"Do you make the interface with a Translator for all of the different MAFs (LT1 3 and 3.5 or the LS1 3.5)? "

Not sure what you mean by interface, but it is my understanding that you simply set different "switches" on the translator to correspond to the MAF that you are using. As for the actuall connection to the MAF, i would assume the translator comes with the correct plug..again someone else maybe able to solidify this, from their experience.

Mine is an old one but they are made by Bob Bailey I think. Ramcharger's is the one I hear mentioned most about having them in stock.
