I know its simple but... I know the 78' uses and odd size and I want to order a new nice set, I see two sizes listed. I think it's the 1/2 am I correct? Thanks!

not an odd size just pre metric fasteners
so threads are sae standard

They switched in 1982 (and will have 'metric' stamped on them).
You can get the 12 mm to work on a 1981 El Camino. They won't go on nicely, but they will hold the wheels on.
If they lugs ever don't feel right, you probably have a SAE/Metric cross.

And in addition to all this, Good luck finding a nice set at a good price at your local parts store... Best I could find was $40+ at AAP and Napa only had plain open ended lugs. I got a nice set of 20 sharp chrome ones on ebay for $10! I'll have to post a picture up, I picked up a set of Ralley's that were in bad shape and refinished them and then added some new lugs. Made a world of a difference!
