This may be in the wrong forum, but here it goes.
I have a 1996 LeSabre, 3800 Series 2, after the engine is well warmed up, under moderate to hard acceleration the power dies in spurts.
It is like the transmission is slipping, but the RPM does not jump up. I will be accelerating hard and for a split second the RPM will drop and the engine has a corresponding total loss of power. There is no appearance that the engine cuts off - as in the dash board lights do not flash on.
I know the mass air flow sensor is bad, could that be the cause?

A mass air flow sensor will feel a lot like a plugged cat. You will nail the throttle and it will feel like a slug. Barely able to aceel or maintain running. Not neccesarily rough, but it will feel dead.

question? when was the last time you replace the GAS FILTER or tune-up the car. A bad will must likly set a fault code (SES light).

I have seen OBD II cars that won't even set the light. If the signal is not right for the conditions BUT within the window of operation it's won't set a code. Especially OBD I which usually only sets a code if the device is open, shorted or way way out of whack. I' talking like a 4.3v signal when it should be .62v or whatever.
