i just changed oil and now the car will smoke a lil sometimes but not often, out the tailpipes. also i left it parked a couple days and it looks liek the exxon valdese spill under there. the crossover pipe has oil in 2 places on it and theres tons of oil on the pan, the crossmember, front of bloxk (from oil drain). wtf. do rear mains go out in these cars once a month? also whats the best way to seal the pan? cork or rubber gasket? any type of sealant should be used on the gasket?

We use the Duttweiler Cork pan gaskets. they are thicker and made from a denser cork. We use the "right stuff" silicon on both sides of the gaskets when running a girdle and the gasket without silicon when not running a girdle. they are available from Kirban, Duttweilers or from us at RJC Racing.

oil leak

Hi!
I would use the felpro split lip replacement in place of the old rope seal. I also had good luck with the felpro oil pan gasket, which is silicone rubber. It's blue, the only drawback. I guess gm original is a way around that. As far as leaks in the frontal area are concerned, you don't have much choice. Make sure the pump or oil cooler isn't the trouble. Sometimes, the gasket goes bad, especially after oil changes. Hey, it could be worse. I had one lose oil pressure entirely after an oil change. It took half my work day to get it back! Fill the filter, and it should be ok. Good luck with your problem.

thanks race jace. ill beusing one fo your girdles on my next motor. i went by cal hartlines shop once and he swears by "the right stuff" as you call it. my frontal leak is my mistake in not sealing the turbo oil drain line in the block. i already replaced the rear main with a felpro neoprene. how long they last? shjould i have done something different? maybe ill just try a gasket replacement with the cork and the right stuff. think that'll work good?

Hi,

I picked up one of John's performace (www.johnsperformance.com) oil drain pipe. It's really nice!! It screws straight into the manifold, all the other adapter like fittings are not used. I have not put it in yet, waiting for new turbo.

Decades from now our cars will be indentifiable in the junk yards by their pristine crossmembers. Sort of like dental records...
